Arma 2: Army of the Czech Republic Announced

Bohemia Interactive Studios announces Arma 2: Army of the Czech Republic, new DLC for Arma II coming to the military shooter sequel in Q3 of this year. Word is: "The civil war in Bystrica is at its end. But it's not the end of fear for the people. War criminals like Colonel Miyovic still terrorize the country with their militia looting and murdering civilians. Forces of the Czech Republic Army are sent to restore order. After restoring partial order in Takistan; Allied forces were able to send in a small number of provisional reconstruction teams. Unfortunately local rebels are still planning operations to damage the reconstruction process. However, Czech forces are operating in the area and that should help change the status quo." There are some screenshots on the Arma 2 Website, and here's a feature list:

  • Czech Army - Bolster the Arma sandbox with a range of authentic Czech Army units and vehicles, including the L-159 Alca, Pandur II, and Dingo infantry mobility vehicle
  • Authentic Weapons - Pick from a range of new weapons, including those developed with Ceská Zbrojovka a.s.: CZ 805 BREN, CZ Scorpion EVO III and CZ 75 PHANTOM
  • Diverse Missions - Deploy across 15 new missions in the single player campaign, scenarios and procedural template gameplay modes
  • Verdant Environments - Explore the two new summer-season terrains: Bystrica and Bukovina

I think the tough time Arma has in general is that you practically need to be ex-military to play it with others. At least, the videos I've seen on youtube indicate this, where everyone seems to know all the military lingo and procedures.

I've been wanting to try some vanilla Arma II, but frankly I find that point above intimidating as hell, even with my great love for tac shooters.

Yeah, I totally agree. I have a friend that is in a clan and they played a lot of ARMA II, so he knows the game very well. We have played some CoOp together, so that has helped me learn the mechanics of the game and such. If you want a challenge and something fresh over the other FPS games on the market, I would definetely take the ARMA II SP for a drive before jumping into the MP (excluding DayZ). I think you'll find the comparison very interesting.

Yeah, some of the online players are insufferable. The ArmA community is full of wannabe military types. Stress on the "wannabe"..

I only boot this game these days to mess around in the mission editor. It can be incredible lanned with the right people who are interested in fun not procedure. I've never managed to find those people online though.

Many places are indeed like that. People get all RPG with it (and I don't mean the kind that take out tanks) and insist on that behavior. That's why I never played on many of them.

I like SimHQ's Arma server because people take it serious, but not TOO serious. People work together as a team, following orders from the FTLs and SL, but it doesn't work like a real training ex for some military.

Call it "casual realism".

They're going to have a tough time with rewarding sales on this one based on the timing of DayZ on a continuous popularity climb. Unless however, they tie in something with higher res character textures, or something like that, similar to what they did with 'ARMA II Reinforcements'. I’m sure all that is in discussions/planning already though.

Other games cant have any DLC, while this game cant have enough. I hoped they would release DLC like this every few months. German forces, French, Israeli, etc, etc, etc. Maybe with ArmA 3.

The problem with normal unofficial mods is, that you wont find servers with it. DLC from BIS runs on every server since its included in every patch (with lower res textures).
Hell, I would be happy if I would find a warfare server that is well populated and uses different maps than Chernarus and Takistan.

The Australian team is only involved in the military version called VBS. BIS are Czech so they made a Czech addon. I wouldn't read much into this release beyond that..

Yeah I know, but since they'd obviously already have models, textures and stats/data for weapons, vehicles and equipment used by the Australian Army it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to work out a deal to include that into a DLC for ArmA 2. Was my point anyway.

And besides, Czech units are already included in the game. Why do we need more? Something different would be nice.

I want Australian forces. I thought with a development team in Australia and after the British Armed Forces expansion, Australia would definitely get its own expansion... But Czech, meh.

yea and how the hell are you gonna find a server to play this on? Its all dayZ or some weird arma mod patch version 1.6.1.4.3.2.2.2.2 its splintering the game too much!!!!
You're doing it wrong. ArmA is not your average PC game. You need to find a community and join it. There are many ArmA server communities each have their own preferences as to whether they're running the Betas or some other combination of mods. Based on that information, you then join that server community, they will tell you which mods you need.

Don't worry. I'm sure the DayZ mod author will find a way to tie this into the DayZ mod, either as required or optional. Oh wait...
