It's obvious that the game will make money if properly done and WITHOUT GFWL. I doubt that anyone who will port it for is in Japan, and even outsourcing it our of country is a mixed bag. I think Capcom basically does their own ports now after the RE4 fiasco with Ubisoft, and everything else that comes out of Japan for PC is usually a budget title or a "dating sim." It's basically like asking them to make a native Linux port.
In any case they're probably also unfamiliar with the neverending complaints that will come out of the PC side. Yesterday it was GFWL. Today it's frame rate. Tomorrow it might be field of view settings, and then the day after that someone will demand a first person view. And then probably people will complain that it's not moddable.
On the bright side, they're releasing the DLC on PC months ahead of the consoles, but as someone said about the reverse situation for Skyrim, who really cares? People with short attention spans will forget their outrage and buy it when it's out, and people with long ones can wait. |

| I'm wondering if there was much paraphrasing on Eurogamer's part that would explain something lost in translation. Otherwise, well and good that they value honesty before marketing, albeit they're not really selling it. |

| If it ends up looking and performing like the console version, only at a higher resolution, they might be able to make up for that shortcoming. Ultimately what matters is that the game is fun; I can handle a somewhat retro looking game that's a blast to play. |

Their honesty kind of makes me want to support them. Better than the typical 'It's not just a port because the PC version will have special features such as support for multiple resolutions and optional mouse controls!' that we hear from other publishers. And maybe supporting this small effort will encourage larger efforts in the future. Honestly, did anyone expect anything better from a Japanese developer? Even Square Enix's Final Fantasy MMO's are best played with a gamepad.
Besides, it's the only way I'll ever end up playing it. |

Do you honestly believe they are going to charge $20 for this? Not really, but it would certainly be nice. Remedy was smart enough to charge only $30 for Alan Wake PC and that was an excellent port. |

| As much as I'd like to try the game, you'd better delay it or not release it at all. You don't want to damage your studio's and franchise's reputation. |

As much as I like how FROM decided to go ahead with popular demand and try to bring Dark Souls to the PC, I think the end result is going to be...well, not very good, to put it lightly. They're realizing it's not familiar territory to them, existing problems are still going to exist and no optimizations are going to be put in place. That adds up to one lame sounding port.
I commend them for their effort, but even I, a pretty dedicated PC player, think that Dark Souls just should have remained on the consoles. Unless they pull something out of their ass, this port is just going to fall on its face and FROM isn't going to try again ever again. |

They don't seem to be taking this game seriously. I mean you straight up admit that it's opposite of what every PC gamer wants. A rushed, console port with no PC advantages...who would want that? This is a shame really because Dark Souls is one of the best games in years and I really hate to see a game so many people want fall victim to inexperienced developers.
I appreciate the honesty at least but I think I will wait until a price drop. I mean you want to make a half assed effort then I will pay half price.

I think they are focusing on the console crowd. Like they said, they're Japanese, and for whatever reason there's no PC game market there. But people clamored and ran petitions begging for a Windows port, so they're trying. Bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch.
Typing of the Dead was a pretty weak port (ALT+F4 to quit), but it's still one of my favorite games. Hopefully they won't charge much.
EDIT: It's pretty analogous to Linux and Mac ports, and that one guy who keeps bitching when a Linux port is just running through a Wine wrapper (or something). The alternative is buying hardware if you want to play the game.

"it's more strictly a port from the console version" If they aren't willing to give it the attention it deserves then they shouldn't bother. Many PC gamers will look at that and not give this game another look. Seems to me like they should focus on the console crowd if this is how they want to break into the PC market. Absolutely. I really want to buy this game for PC. Its visuals are fantastic and the gameplay is superb. I really hope they dont fuck this up. |
