Shhh...don't say "online only" in a Diablo 3 thread - that's like saying Voldemort's name |

It's standard practice for Blizzard, has long been the practice with WoW and makes perfect sense. But people didn't cry about it with WoW. They read the patch notes and continued playing. If something needs to be changed now, devs can change it on their end and the next time the server restarts (or is forced if the problem is that severe) the update will take place. Next time the client is updated, the non-critical stuff gets updated. It is the most efficient way of updating urgent problems. Or would you prefer they take the servers down and update the clients constantly?

In WoW I always went for selling by volume. I'd just price my buyout a few gold under any of the same competing items, and if there weren't any I'd just set it quite high. Didn't always work but sometimes it was a nice surprise to see someone actually forked out an insane amount of gold for something. My friend does this too and his reasoning is that nothing costs to much for the right person. He was still selling 397 BoE boots for 7 - 8k on the AH up until not long ago because he knew that, sooner or later, someone would want them right then and there. |

Does the patch address the 3007 errors that boot us off the game every 15-20 minutes?
Those 3007 errors suck. |

The speed at which one goes up in levels makes it so that you have to look very very far ahead when actually bidding for an item. 36 hours from now you'll be 5-10 levels ahead, and who knows by then if you'll be lucky to find the items that make this one useless?
No, it's all about choosing the stats you want and looking at the buyout prices. Yep. If you're bidding, you're wasting your time. Grab it and go. It's not like gold isn't easy to come by.
Yea not everyone is obtuse enough to only purchase gear for their current toon and must have the gear now. Aside from buying gear that may be useful for more than 1 toon, as a seller it's difficult to gauge whether a level 1 Rare will go for 3k or 15k and incremental bidding is the driving force behind that. I would like to see a short auction duration option of 3 hrs or so.
So I'm pretty sure that the majority of people out there could care less if nin gets his panties in a wad because there is no buyout price.

It gets fixed server side. The tooltips don't get fixed until the next client patch. They even state this with the hot fix patch notes Maybe people don't like playing the game without even being aware that the tooltips are incorrect. I was pretty frustrating with a Monk build I was doing when someone pointed out to me that Boon of Protection was hotfixed. Also it's not like the overlap between Diablo players and WoW players is 100% either, it's a concept that the latter would be used to. Heck, the notification about the hotfixes wasn't even made officially until 4 days later, let alone updating tooltips. People had to find out through informal testing and play.
As they said in their latest blog update, they are starting to understand these things can frustrate ARPG players who don't necessarily want things to be like an MMO and are going to hopefully avoid them as much as possible. I don't think tooltip updates need to wait for major patches either, it's kind of curious why they didn't just store them server side and retrieve them at launch. Localization is the only real thing I could think of, so much of the game is already online.

| Much like the game itself, the AH is a totally different experience near or at the level cap. Bids and buyouts on higher tier gear doesn't really "work" like the bottom of the market in terms of scale so people aren't quite so spendy and quick to throw cash around. Many of the bid prices are intentionally low to introduce artificial demand or drive interest. |

Sounds like something valve would do. Hey guis, if you change an ability, change the text! Blizzard is the king of tooltip errors. They usually don't address them for quite some time in WoW and it's like some fantastic thing when they actually get around to it like they're doing us a big favor when it should have been seen to along with the original patch. This game is totally outsourced in India and Thailand, as is everything nowadays. They don't have the proper English grammar to release with gameplay mechanics. So we have to wait for the American citizen employees to get paid out of Blizzards' Billion dollar vault, before the masses can finally get the finished patch. |

Other people like to bid, they want to try to get an item at better prices. I've netted quite a few lvl 58-60 items for under 100k and flipped them for 400-500k, having a modicum of patience is a wonderful thing. Buyout prices are almost always inflated. |

I'm still only lvl18 DH early Act2 Normal. I've had lots of tech issues with this game and my CPU in the first 2 weeks. popped in a new AMD X6 1045T, (to replace my dead ol' X3) and all is cooking with gas now. |
