If any of you hating on Dooom 3 didn't fall into it's atmosphere, then clearly you weren't able to let yourself "go" and experience it first person...that's the whole point of the FPS genre. Maybe your senses have been dumbed down with egotistical "this isn't scary it's dumb" machismo. Example: If upon first arriving at Delta Labs you weren't creep'ed out, then you missed the whole point of the game.
As for the HL2, comparing either titles together is pointless because of the gameplay differences. Valve did an amazing job at making you feel alone in war torn world, sometimes going minutes without seeing another living thing. Doom 3 was relentless and stressful, monsters were behind every corner and even the predictable segments still brought buckets of anxiety. |

It will be on Windows, at least according to their tweet. Think I will get it, depending of course on it's DRM.
While many people seemed to hate Doom 3, I thought it was a nice breath of fresh air/shift back to what made FPS's popular. It was a nice FPS that wasn't: a) Call of Battlefield: Yet another rendering of WW2 b) Wasn't you and a bunch of AI "allies" you needed to keep alive even though they were completely suicidal c) Away from the early 2000's FPS model of nothing, nothing, army, nothing, nothing, army (like Serious Sam, etc...) It had enemies nicely spaced out, secrets, more then 2 weapons at a time and no stupid team mates to keep alive.
While it did lack in ways from the first two, it felt a lot better then other FPS's at the time. |

It was in no way like the original doom games, so I can understand that complaint, but don't tell me it was a bad game or "behind the times". And it was the first game to do actual per-pixel lighting. As a tech demo it was unsurpassed on its release. As a game, my opinion, is that it was decent too. I own D3 and RoE - I'll probably pick up the PC version of this one too when it comes out for the extra levels and also, more so, for D1 and D2. Those are overpriced on Steam so putting all three together and throwing in some bonus levels I'm sure the overall price will be a bargain.
Also, revamped D3? I think this is just to build-up interest in D4 too.. |

This isn't adding anything that can't be added with mods. So why would I want to buy the game twice? |

Quake 4 was more of a Doom sequel in the way it played than Doom 3 was. And that is just fucking sad that Raven has more of a grasp on what an id game should be like than id does. |

Enough doom3 talk. Go away, you kids.
Doom1/2 is where it's at. If you grew up with these games, and you still don't own them, then now is the time.
Get those full version .wad files, then play it on some of the latest/best ports/engines around: http://www.doomworld.com/classicdoom/ports/index.php?platform=2
Personally I used to rave about DoomLegacy, and the multiplayer options are great. I had people join my game by surprise. But, it's just too buggy to put up with, because a bug will crash the whole game and ruin your adventure.
Doomsday is really good too, but again, it can crash as well.
Lately i've been focused on either Odamex, or ZDaemon.
There are also ports/engines that maintain true vanilla feel (including bugs, and exploits) of the game.
Check it out. |

Well, other than Square and Final Fantasy.
The rights to Doom were sold long before video game companies had the leverage, or the understanding, that they needed to be closely involved. It's been awhile since I paid attention, so your probably right. But...still I remember something about how id was involved with the script and how they wanted to make sure this wasn't just another video game to movie hack job. I think they say that every time, then the studio doesn't listen to the developer and does their own thing.
It's part of the reason why there's no Gears of War movie - Epic wants control, wants a proper budget, is having issues getting it due to the current movie climate (i.e., all the big budget failures.) |

Or how it looked worst than Quake 2, when you disabled all the special effects/mapping.
They pushed out or fired all the people at id who wanted, tried and fought to make D3 a more modern game. These jerkoffs care so little about their ip and their fan base (what's left), look what they did with the movie.
Hah, they have a lower score than the other D3.
I'm playing Metro 2033 atm and it's a MUCH MUCH better game! |
