| Worst thing I heard was supposedly a broker received an order from a customer the week prior to the Facebook IPO telling the broker the customer wanted to buy shares up to a specific price. That's normal enough -- but the price the customer said he was willing to pay? Up to $4,000 a share. Madness. |

I've read of an accountant who had multiple people who had never even purchased a stock in their lives asking him how to buy as much FB stock as their life savings would allow. Although losses like that might be regrettable, my general feeling about it is, "A fool and his money are soon parted." The IPO seems to have been poorly handled and it wasn't much of a surprise when it turned out $100B was a bit high as a valuation of Facebook (at least currently). It will be interesting to watch over the next 5 years and longer to see what happens. I'm sure there are predictions on both sides. It would not surprise me if 2 years from now Facebook stock was at $5, but it also wouldn't surprise me if it was at $100. |

If they're that stupid, I can't help but think they had it coming. The whole point of "life savings" is you never throw it all at one thing, due to exact examples like what you outlined.

| Heh imo then the bank would be to blame. This is obviously a high risk stock and thus anyone wanting to put all his money into that should be warned repeatedly. If a bank failed to do so it might be worth to sue them. Because the bank definitely knew that it was overpriced. |

Guy says he doesn't like to put his private life up on Facebook and only shares with his close friends... Apparently that single sentence warrants this headline.
I also don't think he was talking about what Facebook does with his info but rather the public at large. I don't share much publicly on Facebook, I share a little more with friends but still nothing I want private or secret, and I could give a fuck less what some computer algorithm does with my likes or who buys that data. "OH NO! PLEASE DON'T SERVE ME RELEVANT ADS... THE HORROR!" |
