Diablo III Patch Next Week; Real Money Auctions Postponed Again

Diablo III Website has a post-launch update for Blizzard's MMORPG. This includes news that they "have made the decision to move the launch of the real-money auction house beyond the previously estimated May time frame." They also offer more on security issues. They also discuss hotfixes and plans for a fuller patch next week:

Since the game's launch, we’ve applied a number of hotfixes to address gameplay issues, made tweaks to improve our service stability, and performed occasional server maintenance when necessary to ensure that in the long term, players have the best gameplay experience possible. Moving forward, additional server maintenances will be required -- and sometime next week, we plan to release a game update in the form of a patch that will further address client issues and apply additional bug fixes.

We also wanted to let you know that we're still looking into the best way to address the achievements that some players lost in the hours following the game’s release. While we don't have any concrete details to share with you just yet, we will have more information to share in the weeks ahead. We appreciate everyone's patience as we work to improve stability and usability for all players.

Wow. You may need to re-evaluate your standards if you're considering quitting a game because the minimap is slightly larger than you'd usually like... Nevermind that it's transparent and doesn't impede clicking in that corner of the screen.

I'm afraid to read the patch notes because they said it contained spoilers, but I was curious as to whether they added any changes to the minimap. It is so large it drives me literally insane, was actually thinking about quiting and only coming back if they resized it or gave us the ability to do this ourselves.

I don't have any problems with the mini-map. Most times I don't even see it as I'm looking at the center of the action. I do use "m" a lot though to see the full map to make sure I haven't missed anything.

I like the AH system. It lets me use a guaranteed stream of income (gold) to purchase items outright, rather than relying exclusively on luck of the drop. It also gives me and easier and less time consuming way to unload unwanted items.

Agreed. Really enjoying the game so far. (Never cared about online-only, I consider it like Guild Wars 1). They do have a lot of options for improvements, though, like more loot modifiers, and making legendaries more...legendary. I have 3, and they all suck. I'm going to save them though, in the hope that when they're fixed, they'll be fixed retroactively, and I'll be able to sell/use them.

Indeed. It works well, as long as you get a feel for the market. Seems that the 'rare stigma' is sticking around though. Even though I've seen some pretty decent yellows that outstrip blues if you put a gem in them.

ummm...replay Act 1? heh.

Not that simple.

Two of the achievements that I lost are related to "Acquiring the blacksmith" and "Leveling up the blacksmith".

The latter only seems to count for the achievement the very first time you level up the blacksmith, not any subsequent levels. So leveling him from 8 to 9 doesn't count, only 1 to 2.

That's made a problem by the fact that the blacksmith is account-wide, not per character. As in, I can NEVER 'acquire' the blacksmith again on my account, because it's already been done. I can also never level him up from 1 to 2 again because he's well past that point now.

So yes, it needs a fix from Blizzard itself, not just a replaying of Act 1.
Stupid simple progress achievements like that are retarded anyway. Who the hell cares that you unlocked the blacksmith? Like there's a single player out there that doesn't get that one? I just don't get achievements like this I guess...

And to think how much nonsense could be avoided if they had kept the SP portion of the game offline, or at least had an offline mode that wasn't tied to the AH.

The problem with that is once you hit Inferno, you rely on the AH in order to get higher tier items to make the grind beyond Act 1 much less painful. Without this option, you're pretty much at the mercy of the game given certain mob combinations which are sometimes tied in to quests and need to be killed in order to progress. Is this difficulty a flaw with the game? I don't think so, Blizzard pretty much came out and said you'll die a lot in Inferno but it would do them good to work on some scaling issues for certain classes.

The gear tier system, on the other hand, was known quite some time before the release of the game along with progressively difficult content from one act to the other. Harder mobs, better gear so it shouldn't shock anyone to put two and two together and that Act 4 gear would trump all gear before it.

It just so happens that those who have made it to Act 4 sell their finds for obscene prices but if people are willing to pay for it then I guess the system works.

And I find it funny others have mentioned - which I theorized a while back - that drops are intentionally tweaked downward so that people need to rely on the AH to make viable characters for end-game. I certainly wouldn't put it past Actibblizz at this point.

It does seem like the game direction is around making the RMAH a viable revenue generator - server hosted games only (no offline), RMAH delays, extremely rare loot (people getting to lvl 60 without a legendary or set drop), the skill nerfs including the complete removal of a skill from the game whilst they decide what to do with it (in a normal single player game this wouldn't be removed, just updated with a patch).

Well, I guess you could delete all your characters...

This game will improve with age, wait it out for now.

Don't expect a big pricedrop anytime soon though, Diablo 2+exp had a standard price of $39.99 till what - about 2010?

As for the RMAH, well, I would much rather they change the way the gold AH is now because some jackass thought only posting 10 items max on a game which revolves around loot would be a great idea. Not to mention the fact that after the first five minutes are up, you cannot cancel your auction for the rest of the fucking time....
Which is two whole days. After 2 days of waiting to sell, and continuing to level the crap you had on there is worthless. And same thing with buying, there's literally no point to bidding on an item that will take 2 days to end in the auction, you will have leveled far past it in two days (unless you stop playing for a while).

I'm a little disappointed that the Barbarian is pretty much treated as -the- tanking class of Inferno. Sure, you can go DPS but that DPS is pretty much using a goof ball combination of reverse Ancient Spear and Weapons Throw while trying to kite elites in Act 2 and beyond. Half the skillsets and weapons are useless for the most part because of this.

Hell, even sitting at 50k hp, 10k armor, 12k dps, and ~500+ resistances across the board, an elite Dune Dervish can pretty much eat me alive in my tank spec and if I try to skirt around it and time my CDs to gradually burn them down, guess what, they're now enraged and you die from an aoe aura. Sometimes, if you're lucky, their health won't regen to full so you can keep throwing yourself at them till they die but that's rarely the case.

The only reason Inferno is as hard as it is on Barbarians is because of drastically inflated scaling and the class itself. Act 1 is a piece of cake but as soon as you enter Act 2, well, Sand Wasps will make it very clear how the rest of the Act will pan out...

As for the RMAH, well, I would much rather they change the way the gold AH is now because some jackass thought only posting 10 items max on a game which revolves around loot would be a great idea. Not to mention the fact that after the first five minutes are up, you cannot cancel your auction for the rest of the fucking time....
