Two Borderlands 2 CEs Announced

Gearbox Software announces two different tiers of collector's edition for Borderlands 2, their role-playing shooter sequel that's expected this September. The Borderlands 2 Pre-Order Page offers links to the retailers offering the CEs and a bunch of photos of all the goodies included in these CEs, which include membership in a Premiere Club, similar to how they did with Duke Nukem Forever. Here's the deal:

The Deluxe Vault Hunter’s Collector's Edition (MSRP $99.99) includes a copy of Borderlands 2; authentic Marcus Kincaid bobblehead; Inside the Vault: The Art & Design of Borderlands 2 hardbound book; collectable sticker set; map of Pandora; digital comic download code; and bonus downloadable in-game digital content. The Ultimate Loot Chest Limited Edition (MSRP $149.99) includes all of those items, plus a collectable scaled replica of the red loot chests found throughout Pandora in Borderlands 2; steel book case; Creatures of Pandora wide-format ID chart; lithograph postcard set; field notes from Sir Hammerlock; cloth map of Pandora; and a numbered certificate of authenticity. Both of the special editions will be available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows-based PC.

Gamers who pre-order the Deluxe Vault Hunter’s Collector's Edition, Ultimate Loot Chest Limited Edition or the standard edition of Borderlands 2 from participating retailers will also gain access to the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club, allowing them to download the Gearbox Gun Pack, a Golden Key, the Vault Hunter’s Relic and an all-new fifth character class - the Mechromancer. The Gearbox Gun Pack is a collection of unique guns to help players begin their journey on Pandora. The Golden Key is used to unlock a rare in-game item in the mysterious Golden Sanctuary Loot Chest found in Borderlands 2. The Vault Hunter’s Relic is an in-game item that boosts players’ gear-hunting fortune while playing solo or teaming up with friends. The Mechromancer character class will be available following launch when development of the character is complete and is free to those who pre-order Borderlands 2, and will be available for purchase for those who do not.

Meh. Autobuy for me. First game was awesome, just more of the same and I will be happy.

And gotta keep your eyes open, SR3 was 15.00 at GMG yesterday....
Are you going to auto buy at gamestop to get access to the creature slaughter dome map/mode?

I'd be pissed having that buff... Because every time another POS item dropped, I'd be like... fuck... what happened to the extra I payed for this worthless shit : )

Friend o mine just picked this up for like $7 (he just said about 4 heh) or some crazy shit a week or two ago... Not quite sure how; perhaps just a steam trade thingy, which is apparently popular on reddit... But the one time I visited that site, I didn't see it : )

All pre-orders include the premier club, not just collectors (the info from take 2 is confusing, but thats what it breaks down to)

Also, its not just pre-orders getting stuff, you miss out on the creature slaughter dome (a survival map/mode game bonus I think? that lets you carry loot into the main game), which you only get if you pre-order from gamestop.

Last time I got in on a 4 pack of borderlands, I MIGHT do that if steam has it, but I'm not paying full price for the game.

I think the biggest problem here is I have to pre-order one of their expensive versions to get the character class. Otherwise, he costs extra.

So what they're really saying here, is that this game is not complete for 60 bucks. They should be allowing a standard addition pre-order with that fifth class.
No that is incorrect

They have to give you something for that $100 premium I guess. Still I couldn't be bothered to pay so much for something like that, and I really don't care if someone else gets better loot then me. If it was worth their extra $100 all the power to them.

Stickers? Postcards? Downloadable Comic? Cloth Map?

I agree with the first post, fuck Gearbox.

The only 2 things worthwhile would be the character class and the Red Box, rest is trash thrown in trying to justify the price.

I don't really want either but CEs have always been like this so I don't see the big deal.
It's the in-game content that annoys me.

It just implies a different gaming experience.

The starting loot is bad enough, but at least it's just an early-game thing and isn't pervasive. The Vault Hunter's Relic is something else. The constant carrot-on-a-stick mechanic is almost endemic in gaming now, whether it's loot, perks, levelling, ranking, whatever. Cheap fast-food it may be, but it's a substantial part of the game.

Now every crappy crate comes with a thought maybe there'd have been something tasty if I'd had the perk. Maybe the good weapon I do find would have been that bit better with the perk.

It's a shameless cash-in, not on added value but on the perception of value being taken away otherwise.

What would you like to see in a CE or SE package instead of the stuff included into the games lately?

I am not saying the DLC stuff included in the CE is right/wrong but it is (for some people) a lot more valuable then some of the other things that were part of these packages.

To be honest (and maybe I was just lucky so far) I've never seen any DLC guns/armor/camo/etc included into any of the Special Editions that made such a huge difference in gameplay or in MP matches. If anything people who wants these SE DLC stuff is just so they can show off or stand out in a MP game as they are the ones with the special edition of the game or something.

I couldn't care less.

collectible sticker set is one kind of retarded.

Really? Because I'm thinking they'll look kind of cool on my old punk rock beater bass guitar that's already covered in Pokemon stickers from way back in the day.

I'm leaning towards the cheaper of the two editions for PS3 myself... but I'll see what the money situation says when I actually pre-order it in a store.

Canceled my pre-order of this after ME3. Too many companies comfortable with dividing up a game and delivering an incomplete product for $60 only to offer the rest for a $5 - $10 more.

Feels extremely disrespectful to treat your launch day consumers like they're nothing special, get in line.

The people who buy your game at launch deserve a lot more respect from developers. Hopefully once enough start withholding their money they'll get the message.

On the one hand I'm tempted to pre-order to get the fifth character class, but otoh, the first game was a travesty on the PC out of the box, and I have zero faith in Randy Pitchford that the second one will be ANY better, despite all his (undoubtedly empty) promises.

You can still purchase the class later. Let them fix it and then get it on sale later...

Yeah but if I pre-order it, it doesn't cost extra!

Hell, you don't even have SR3 yet. X|

The Fallout 3 CE cost me $80, why do these dipshits think bobbleheads and metal boxes are worth $150? The day I spend $150 on a box of tchotchkes is the day the earth stops spinning on its axis.
