Tex Murphy Kickstarter

Here's a new Kickstarter Campaign for Tex Murphy - Project Fedora, a sixth game in the series of sci-fi, noir detective adventures. The project is a reunion for series creators Chris Jones and Aaron Conners, and the fundraiser is off to a roaring start, having collected almost a third of its $450,00 goal in under 24 hours (thanks Warren and Todd). There's an interview with Chris Jones on Adventure Classic Gaming discussing the project, and here's part of the pitch:

Long-time Tex fans may be curious if the new storyline will pick up where Overseer (and its infamous cliffhanger) left off. The short answer is YES, but this game will be just as enjoyable for people who have never played the earlier games. While we can't give too many details yet, just be prepared for an incredible opening sequence!

Project Fedora promises to be the best Tex Murphy adventure ever - even better than the last three Tex Murphy games (Under a Killing Moon, The Pandora Directive, Overseer), which were met with critical acclaim, won "Adventure Game of the Year" awards, and are consistently ranked as some of the best adventure games of all time.

And you even wrote a review...

Mr. Tact Apr 17, 2013, 12:33: Pretty sure that's the definition of trolling...

Well Kickstarter has definitely proven to be a huge boon for the Point-and-Click Adventure genre.

I just pledged $100 for the boxed collector's edition. Thumbsup
It's a shame that so many prominent PC developers have to approach us, hat in hand, to fund their games... because the big publishers are so fixated on the console market.

BTW, only 62 hours to get your pledges in for Jane Jensen's Moebius! Drummer

It's not that they're focused on the console market, it's that they don't want to invest in anything that won't sell at least a million units. If they thought that Wasteland 2 or Tex Murphy would sell 10 million units, they'd have no hesitation in funding them.

I've never played any Tex Murphy games, anyone care to give a couple words on them?

They're first person 3d adventure games where you can walk around in each scene, with FMV during character-to-character interactions and certain sequences. You actually have to move around, open drawers, look under desks, etc. to hunt for clues and such.

Imagine Blade Runner, with brighter environments and lighthearted humor.

When I first read this my mind for some reason replaced "Tex Murphy" with "Tex Avery" and wondered if there really was that big of a market for a sci-fi, noir detective game starring Droopy.

The pebble? Looks like it's down to 60 hours. Amazing how much money they got...

Not really, the apple fans got involved. Its the first KS I've seen that actually capped sales (I think they don't want to satisfy market demand with discounted KS pre-orders). Its quiet ingenious really, find a market niche that apple hasn't bothered to fill, something that apple fans want, and something they can fill, and fill it. The product looks slick enough to be an apple product, they have past experience building electronic type watches, and it works with android too, not just iOS devices.

I'm a little miffed that they've made almost as much as the SQ devs, in so little time.

At any rate, good luck, and I'm willing to bet I'll chip in eventually.
