There is a regular closed beta that is going on at the same time. (Not to be confused with the BWE's). This is why you can logon every few days and see some patch activity... even if you can't get in the actual game.
The Sylvari and Asura are available in the closed beta, so I have heard. This would indicate that ArenaNet is purposely withholding them from a majority of the beta "testers" until launch.
Technically nothing is "finished", even the races and classes we get to play on the BWE's. By Finished, I mean launch ready.
The BWE's are more for stress testing, than Beta testing. As I've said... there is an ongoing closed beta, and the game is live daily. Obviously they are also a marketing tool to get people to pre-purchase. So, while the BWE's are marketing in nature, they also get valuable stress test info, and some more general feedback in their beta forums and their in-game surveys. Any "special stress testing days" beyond the BWE's are a bonus for both them and us... obviously they think they had some things fixxed or alleviated, in order to call up a "special" stress test this last Monday... but technically, that's what all the BWE's really are. Don't be fooled into thinking you are actually beta testing in a BWE. |

They have said they are not putting sylvari and asura starting zones in beta on purpose. This wasn't in some marketing canned response, but an offhand comment by a dev at a convention in response to a question. I'm hoping they change their mind...
Still, you can't use what is in and what isn't in the beta as a barometer for release. Only how complete what IS shown is. Most errors and missing things seem minor to my eyes. If they can be fixed, and that is a big if, it could release next month.
I don't think that would be a great idea, but it's certainly possible. |

"Don't you realize we're just testing an outdated version?!?" is my personal favorite version of this. In general I'd agree with this. With ArenaNet, I'm not so sure. They're the one company I can recall who did implement a miracle patch between final beta weekend event and release for the original Guild Wars. Granted, some of the chances weren't positive (skill purchases for PvP), but they changed A LOT and had way more content than could've been expected based on the public beta weekends.
That being said, Guild Wars didn't really even need a miracle patch in the first place. Even the original open alpha event was very playable and solid. Guild Wars 2 on the other hand clearly still needs a fair bit of work, particularly in terms of performance. I'd be surprised if they release it in June. August or September would seem more likely as earliest estimates.
It's also important to note that ArenaNet started Guild Wars beta weekend events some 7-8 months prior to the game's eventual release. Guild Wars 2 only had its first beta weekend a couple of weeks ago. So if their Guild Wars development process is anything to go by, then we've certainly still got some waiting to do. |

Being that the two other races were available at various press events/gaming conventions...yea, I am buying in to "that." "Available" and "finished" are two entirely different things. The game is "available" in beta at the moment, but it is nowhere near "finished". Further reinforced by the fact that the only times they have shown off the Sylvari and Asura are with pre-made characters at high levels... it's pretty clear that the Sylvari and Asura starting zones aren't finished, and that is why they're not in the beta, and that is why there's no way in hell the game is coming out in June.
Not that I'm complaining, I'm looking forward to the game just as much as you (maybe even as much as Cutter), but I also want it to have enough time to bake in the oven before it goes live. |

Anet wants to have some surprises for release, but if we are lucky we'll get em in the next BWE. Lucky closed beta testers. |

Anyway.
Companies aren't in the habit of making their product available without an NDA to people who are seeing an unfinished non-representative version of their work. That's really all there is to it; if what you saw seems definitively like it needs more time in the oven, then it does. |

Hey nin, when you rage against the machine do you listen to Rage Against the Machine? I've never been too much into their stuff...I know a couple of singles here and there (Bulls on Parade springs to mind) but that's it.
But I have a number of Richard Cheese albums.

So, I hope this is wrong and they aren't launching prematurely like most other jackass developers / publishers do. Yeah, not to mention we haven't even played the Asura and the Silvari. I highly doubt that it's going to be ready in a month. |

Hate to sound like a shill... but from what I got to see and play I am down with the sickness. The game is good fun and all with no monthly fee. I pre-purchased with no regret. While I sit here trying to decide if I should open or e-bay this Diablo 3 CE. |
