I had install issues with Windows 7 64-bit but found out that I turned off the Secondary Logon service which, apparently, is required.

This is coming from a DVD install though so I'm not sure if it covers the same kind of issue with the digital edition.

I haven't used my DVD drive in so long that when I popped it open, it had the first FEAR in it.

I'm seeing thousands of thousands of angry people complaining that the servers are down, can't login, etc etc etc.

Yep, if you keep buying products from companies that refuse to put up enough server capacity to handle all their pre-orders, then don't be surprised if they keep refusing to put up enough server capacity.

Apparently the servers are now down for the next few hours? Smooth launch...

The game launched 18hrs ago in the UK and the servers are still too busy to connect to. Blizzard really screwed the pooch with this one. Very unimpressed.

I got connected last night when it launched, created a character, had the system lag, and it filled all my character slots with the same character. I tried to delete one, the system timed out, and kicked me back to the login screen. Gave up after another 45-50 minutes of trying to get in, so an hour of wasted time.

Played this morning for an hour and a half. I love the game, when it's playable...of course, I exited the game to try another character and then the system couldn't create new games. So, here I am again, killing time until the servers are available or able to work.

I don't have a problem with requiring a connection to play. I play MMO's all the time. But, didn't Blizzard learn -anything- from World of Warcraft? Or the open beta, that was virtually unavailable to log into during any hour of the day that normal humans are awake? I'm willing to stick up for the decision to make it online if they can ensure that it will be, but for now... I have to admit that the people who were angry about that have been proven right.

I know it's day 1, but this isn't their first time stepping up to the plate.

Any news on how this plays on less-than-stellar connections? And does it actually install on Win7-64? (Since the demo wouldn't?)

Creston

Yeah, Creston, is there perhaps something else about your system build that might have played a part in that? I have two systems running Win 7 64bit, one with an older Radeon card and one with a newer Nvidia card, and neither had problems installing or playing the beta. Not saying D3 might not have a problem with the installer..I am just very certain it isn't Win 7 64 bit that is the determining factor.

My cable internet connection had occasional rubber-banding, so a 'less then stellar' internet connection can probably expect the same. Didn't seem to have much to do with what was going on in the game. Got it in-town or in-combat...a few enemies or a few dozen enemies. Just a result of the system. Be interesting to see if they improve that somehow. I wouldn't know how or if they can.

Yeah, it seemed to be hit and miss who got it and who didn't. Some nice soul posted a link on how to fix the install issues, but it seemed like a lot of fiddling, so I never bothered with it.

Enough people are saying that it's been fixed that I'm not too worried about it. The internet issues are more troublesome for me, but from the descriptions, it seems like most problems are server-side rather than connection.

I appreciate the feedback. Thanks

Creston

Not even close. According to Eurogamer, D3 has 2 million pre-orders, which in itself is quite spectacular, but it's nowhere close to Call of Duty which usually has something like 6-7 million pre-orders every year.

I think Activision themselves projected 3.5m total preorders. That said, Diablo is a (no pun) long tail seller which retains its value really well plus they have the revenue from the idiots who use the RMAH. The first two games sold something like 19 million combined. I can easily see this being a revenue earner near or on par with your average Call of Duty title. Call of Duty of course iterates yearly but who knows how much longer they can keep that up.

Huh. Trolls or valid complaints? I know a lot of people don't like the always online shit, a reason I didn't buy the game myself, but is that enough to troll ratings?

Who am I kidding, this is the internets. Of course it is more than enough reason. Damn, now I have to wait even more time to read real honest reviews.

FYI, to get Steam overlay to work with D3, change the command line to diablo3.exe -launch

2 million retail pre-orders? Eurogamer doesn't cite their source. I'd be curious how many digitally pre-ordered directly from Battle.net and how many of those did the Annual Pass.

I've been enjoying the game today. The error 37 server overload issues lasted about 2 hours after the game went live, but since then it has been pretty smooth sailing. Game is a lot of fun to play too

well fuck...I guess I can walk around and click stuff...kill some monsters...I wanted to sell stupid hats! I was going to corner the hat market before Valve can! It's only fair! Valve stole DOTA from Blizzard, it's time for Blizzard to start their own hats market! This was all just a huge distraction to get a hat market started...right? I mean no one cares about Diablo 3, we're all in it for hats...right? /s

Cheers for posting that, I nearly broke and paid the exorbitant £45 to buy from Blizzard but F that if it's still difficult logging in anyway. edit: heh, feel the wrath on metacritic.

I even traipsed about town looking to buy retail but they've all sold out. Only the biggest HMV and the one remaining GAME store have so much as a token shelf for PC games. This is in the capital of Scotland...

Sounds worthy of the £32 on Amazon though so I should have it for the weekend edit2: maybe not, both Amazon uk and Play are out of stock, not seen that for a while. Annoyed at the Blizz price though. Near 50% premium for bandwidth even though they don't need to pay for making a physical disk, packaging, distribution and the retailer's margin? AND the download doesn't come with the guest passes to give away.

'course, if anyone has an EU guest pass going spare...

I have win7 Ultimate x64 and had no issues at all installing or playing. So, not sure why you had issues. but so far none here.

Yep. I was able to log in immediately after work, but the gameplay was laggy and wonky.. Then, presumably as more people got home from work/school, I suddenly started getting friggin' pop-up boxes with "The request has timed out!" while I was playing.. I.e. a big error box with an OK button that would pop up constantly. I tried relogging which was a bad idea, because now it's impossible to log back in. Very smooth launch Blizzard, very smooth indeed.

Looking forward to that reconciliation WoW pet that I won't have any use for because I don't play WoW. At least I saw it coming from a mile away, so didn't bother taking any time off work to play.
