Twenty years have passed since the Prime Evils were defeated and banished from the world of Sanctuary. Now you must return to Tristram and investigate rumors of a fallen star, an omen that the End Times have begun.
Diablo III is now live and available at a store near you -- or you can click here to purchase a digital copy directly through Blizzard. The game is available at retailers in both a standard and Collector's Edition. Visit our Diablo III game information page or search the Game Guide to learn more about this highly anticipated third installment in the Diablo series.

So let me clarify this, you currently cannot play this game - even though it is out and at retail?

On the upside, this gives me time to go fire up the BBQ and roast me up a steak and some burgers. Mmmm...BBQ.
Those guys were doing a total speed run, i.e. skipping almost everything. My friend and I have been playing a coop game and it took us about 4 hours to finish Act I (correcting for AFKs, wife/baby aggro, food breaks, etc.). My guess would be 12-15 hours for a normal person to play through... and that's still only normal mode.

If anyone's willing to share a Starter Edition code, I'd be very grateful.

Back in again.
The game has managed to delete most of my achievements, though it kept some of them in seemingly random fashion.

I'm less concerned about launch than I am the long term implications for this.
You actually lose progress when your game drops. You can't save so you are plunked back in the game with whole areas that you had explored now fogged out again(at least according to one of the first impression reviews). I mean I can't imagine what it would be like to have just nearly beat a hard boss and have your connection drop(either on your end or Blizzard's servers and have to do over the whole section that you just played through).
I'm fine waiting for Grim Dawn and playing other things. D3 just isn't calling to me like its predecessors.

Being mad about it is wasted energy, especially when we all knew this was inevitably what was going to happen.
I just can't get on board with it being ok because this stuff happens. It's not unreasonable to expect something better than this.
It's not uncommon for MMO's to have lag, queues, whatever on launch day (which is what this basically is, even if a single player MMO). Glitches are one thing, complete stonewalling by the login server and a three hour shutdown in the middle of the day... people are still at work, kids at school, and some haven't even had a chance to get their copy yet. If it can't handle 2am and it can't handle 12pm, it ain't going to be up later either.
They've talked in interviews about this being the direction that gaming is going, and today is really a pretty good example of why it shouldn't. I'm not really angry about it, just...disgusted, I guess.

"You" - so my stating obviously really bad things done by a company is out of balance.
State it. No reason to repeat it constantly as you've been doing. We've heard you. You are just trolling and doing it badly.

Don't twist my words and apply them to something I never directly endorsed.
But this is a nice way to show the danger of a slippery slope. People didn't take a strong stand and now we have this, same with any position in gaming. If something has the potential to turn bad it will.

What may be stranger still, is that there is still a horde of Blizz fanboys still actively dismissing issues on the D3 boards, aggressively at those that bring up the obvious. It's like a blind cult.
Then there is polar opposite folks that are bitching and trolling the boards when they didn't even buy the game. You balance each other out.
