Out of the Blue

Okay, yesterday was operation spin the bird, as I took my first stab at rotisserie cooking on the grill, and without wasting time on modesty, I have to declare the outcome an unqualified success, as the bird was spectacular. Actually, modesty doesn't enter into it, as the chicken did all the work, just as advertised. I brined the bird for a couple of hours, stuffed some garlic in the cavity and under the skin, added some salt and pepper and some herbs, and let him spin on the spit for a little under 90 minutes, so the chicken really cooked itself. The hardest part was getting it trussed, since I had never done that before, but it's a simple process that will get easier with practice. I could not be more excited at this new addition to the exports of Manstovia.

Android port - for those of us that like to play RPGs on tablets while lying on the sofa with a cold one (or in bed). Idleness ftw.

That's a neat story...reminds me of this one from a few weeks ago.

imagine how much value those planes in burma will bring if they are intact and in working condition after all these years. for sure the expedition financiers will exploit every bit of artifact just like the p-38 recovered in greenland. if the stories about the preservation are true they will be in better shape than the glacier girl. also hope the spitfires are mark 8s. they have so much power the vertical tails are permanently trimmed to counter the torque.

It would be amazing if they documented the restoration of one, to the point of seeing it fly again.

Avernum: Escape From The Pit is about 10x better than Avadon.

Nice, looks like there's a port of that planned too. Will finish Avadon and then pick it up. :-)

Kind of off topic, but has anyone heard of someone making an Android app for bluesnews yet?

Folks are probably all tied up with GW2 and D3, but has anyone here tried Avadon? Review is here:

http://www.rpgfan.com/reviews/Avadon_The_Black_Fortress/index.html

Old-school deep RPG with lots of story, a bit like playing tabletop D&D. There's also an Android (and I guess iPad) app for it.

Very recommended - I'm really enjoying it a lot. Like playing Baldur's Gate while lying in bed.

I watched a documentary a few years ago about a group attempting to rescue and restore a B-29 that had been sitting frozen in Greenland when the crew got lost and ran out of fuel. The crew was rescued, but plane sat there frozen for decades.

It's available to watch online, but if you don't want to watch it, secret text spoilers follow. It was a pretty sad ending. They failed to get it out during the short few months of summer they had, and the main guy behind the operation became sick and died. One of the crew re-organized and returned to finish the job the following year. They restored the plane to flying condition, but while taxiing to takeoff they forgot to shut off an auxiliary generator after starting the main engines, which broke from its mount and caught fire. They were able to get out of the plane, but had to watch as two years of hard work burned to the ground.

Yes, amazing it survived that long, the desert sure is dry. And I was going to say it was an american-built plane (P-40 kittyhawk) but the article mentioned it already.

The earlier article about buried Spitfires is even more amazing - hope they dig them up soon!
