It's all what market segments are being compared, the low end of the LCD market is filled with off label trash for example. Comparing all of the LCDs and plasmas on the market must have been quite a project. There are always various degrees of quality for every product and every technology - obviously plasma and LCD are no different. In my experience whenever I have compared models in various stores plasma is usually considerably cheaper when comparing the same brand / quality, to the point where you can pick up a 46-50" for the same price as a 42" LED. I can't imagine the UK is radically different to other regions and I did make sure to compare all the models I could - I easily looked at over hundred. Obviously I have not compared all the models on the market but then neither have you - it's an irrelevant point.
No doubt there is a lot of confirmation bias when discussing these things but I really don't have anything to defend. I chose my LED TV because it was the best available at the price point I had (i.e. not a budget set but nothing crazy). It is certainly not perfect - the backlight is inconsistent and overly bright, the default image quality was oversaturated and the 100Hz technology creates a horrible motion effect, which I disabled immediately. I can't wait for OLED, as it is a definitively better technology.
But I think it's completely unfair and inaccurate to label LCD/LED's success a result of confirmation bias and ignorance (whether from the consumer or staff members). Again, you seem to be stating your position as fact while dismissing mine - that LCD has terrible picture quality, whereas the only con of plasma is its size/weight. If you want to keep pretending that the entire market is wrong and consumers are simply misinformed then fine. I guess I'll just have to put up with the same of buying an inferior TV. Do you feel better now? |
