The global television market is declining and big box stores along with them. It's another case of a superior technology being edged out due to untrained store employees and consumer misconceptions. Damned shame, plasmas have become much lighter and still retain all of the same picture quality advantages. It's interesting that Panasonics LCD division was 30% under expectations too, that combined with Sony leaving the LCD market signals that the rate of HDTV ownership probably peaked awhile ago. Samsung has frozen prices for the entire year in an attempt to boost margins on their LCD line.
Bring on the OLED I guess, best of everything but I'm starting to wonder when they will ever come to market. |
