Starbreeze Acquiring Overkill

Syndicate developer Starbreeze plans to acquire Overkill Software, the fellow Swedish studio behind Payday: The Heist, reports GamesIndustry International, saying Starbreeze will be floating some new stock to fund this: "The acquisition is contingent on the sale of 200 million new shares in Starbreeze, which will be released on or about June 15 2012. Starbreeze will also implement an incentive program of 42.8 million stock options for employees of Overkill." They connect this back to their recent Starbreeze interview where CEO Mikael Nermark spoke of the company's goal of owning its own IP.

Also showed that Starbreeze should never again be let near any IP - because they apparently still think that bad sales for Syndicate were due to economic reasons.. and not because the game was utter over-bloomed narrow-fov and terrible-weapon-physics' shit.

A game that combines both the best of elements of payday and Riddick would be pretty amazing I think.

A co-op jail break game set in various prisons.

I recently played The Chronicles of Riddick: Butcher Bay for the first time and pretty much enjoyed it; not a bad game at all. And to think it was released within a few months after Doom3….IMO Butcher Bay was a much better game: enjoyable story, action, adventure, etc. And, if you want to talk graphics, well the graphics were on par with Doom 3, if not better in some aspects. It's a shame, as I get the feeling a lot of people, myself included, couldn't see past the hype of Doom 3, and missed out on a really good game for its time. I typically don’t give too much credence to movie-games, but this one worked for me……

Awesome. Soon to be announced by Starbreeze: A spiritual 'successor' to Payday The Heist, in which you play a gardening gnome on a quest to eradicate all bugs from his particular patch of the yard he's been put in.

LOL! You may be onto something there; it could be in the next Indie bundle....

Haven't Syndicate showed that IP isn't enough?

"It's just like the original!" crowed CEO Mikael Nermark.

Hmm.. stock in a game development company?
Would be lucrative in this case if Syndicate wasn't such a bomb..
