1C Company announces Space Rangers HD: A War Apart, СНК-Games' upcoming re-master of the universe of Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators and Space Rangers 2: Reboot that will include an all-new campaign. Release of the RPG/RTS/adventure hybrid remake is expected by the end of this year, and a preliminary Space Rangers: A War Apart Website is online. Here's word:

MOSCOW, Russia - April 18, 2012 - Leading Eastern and Central European publisher, 1C Company, is proud to announce the development of Space Rangers HD: A War Apart. The legendary series returns, in full HD glory, and with new material offering a pirate's point of view with new gameplay. This title remasters the universe of Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators and Space Rangers 2: Reboot and allows players to revisit those games or take part in a thrilling new story.

Space Rangers HD takes place in 3300AD. Our galaxy is invaded by the Dominators, combat robots that come under the influence of an alien technology. The player finds themselves in a living, breathing world where they can engage multiple activities: fight in space and hyperspace, buy and sell goods, accomplish government missions, liberate planets from the Dominators in 3D RTS battles and complete text adventures leading to unique plot twists and rewards. The game ending is not set and players may find a victory of either side at the end. Everything depends on the actions taken in this developing world where anybody can live the life of a pirate as well as that of a hero.

Space Rangers HD features a dynamic game world where the Balance of power between the Dominators and the Coalition can shift at any minute and can be tipped to either side by player actions. A wise criminal will wait before plundering the Coalition if it is losing the war. Additionally, the game has been updated including new upgrades for spaceships, new planetary battles, text quests and hyperspace engagements available to pirates and law abiding rangers. This enhanced edition brings full widescreen support up to 1920x1200 complete with updated graphics and interface. Subtle improvements like the ability to play hyperspace battles outside of the story mode help to provide the unique experience for which Space Rangers was revered.

hmmm...no..(although that looks cool)..trying to find it....it was a 2d game with only 4-5 different ship types. You could be part of a team or group, or go solo. Could drop mines, use bouncing force fields to push things away from you. The black holes were an arcadey top-down space shooter, and some of the missions were choose-your-own-adventures or puzzles. The RTS was just a lot worse than those other components.

I've always wondered what made them decide to add some shitty 3d-RTS to an otherwise great turn-based game. How about keeping the turn-based top-view gameplay on the planet surface but with different features/scenarios?!? People who want a turn-based game will most likely get turned off by 3d-RTS (and vice versa)...

If some of the original devs started a Kickstarter for a "spiritual successor to Space Rangers 2" I would devote lots of money for that. SR2 was really quite underrated and I had a blast with the game, warts and all. In fact, I think I originally picked it up because a lot of you guys on here kept commenting about how good it was.

I'll definitely pick up this HD remake. It's not SR3 but it's better than nothing imo.

BTW, if you haven't played this game in the last couple years they released a SR2 reboot edition with the following additions: 5 new text quests 27 new maps for planetary and 10 for hyperspace battles New unique equipment and hull designs, including three super spaceships New game modes: step-by-step progress through text quests and planetary battles Expanded interface of ship’s hold and information center More than 50 new governmental tasks of different types Galaxy search system improved This is the version sold on Steam and impulse, so its a good time to replay it if its been a while. Edit: The gog version is NOT the reboot version! Edit 2: I searched my email and turns out I bought the complete space rangers version from impulse for like $4 several years back before the reboot came out. When reboot hit, stardock upgraded it to reboot version. My impulse (now gamestop) account still has the game on it, so I'm able to install the reboot version. I'm not sure if I ever did play the reboot version (I think my original plan was to wait for a good steam sale and rebuy it), but I think I will now Edit 3: I like how impulse ASKS you if you want to apply an update, instead of steam where even if you have something set to not auto update, it auto updates anyway. Edit 4: Ahh such a good game. I'm remembering how I love things in the option menu like the ability to disable the logos and intro movie. And you can disable things like landing animation to speed up gameplay. If you haven't tried it, its a great game. youtube videos should give a good idea of if you like it. GoG wouldn't be selling it if it had starforce.
