Grim Dawn Kickstarter

A new Kickstarter campaign by Crate Entertainment looks to fund the competition of development of Grim Dawn, their upcoming action/RPG (thanks nin and Grudgebearer). It was just a couple of weeks ago that they described plans to release the game as a work-in-progress like Minecraft, but now they are turning to crowd funding to turn up the heat, saying: "While we could still finish a fine little game on our own, that would be rough around the edges but very fun, we believe there is a much greater potential that could be realized if we were more adequately funded and staffed. So we're hoping you can help give us some proper funding so that we can get the team together, start making faster progress and ultimately release a bigger, better game for you and everyone else." Here's word on the game:

Grim Dawn is an action role-playing game for PC and a spiritual successor to Titan Quest. For the past two years a small team of former Iron Lore veterans at Crate Entertainment have been developing Grim Dawn with their own, improved version of the Iron Lore engine and tools; the same technology used to create Titan Quest.

We’ve listened to years of feedback from the Titan Quest community and continue to do so every day on the Grim Dawn forums as we strive to improve upon past performance and make this our greatest work yet. The creation of Grim Dawn is guided by traditional design and old school sensibilities, with innovation only in the areas where we feel it truly improves the game and isn't just a gimmicky back of the box feature.

Also. WTF. Their "pre-order" buy button on their own websites does not allow to pay via paypal either. Or hell, why not EC payment, why not Google's payment option?

Just FYI if you read their forums, they use to take paypal but paypal screwed them so paypal is never going to be an option anymore.

I am going to preorder from them soon, I loved TQ so this game is a no brainer for me to support these devs.

Uh, doesn't that mean they ran out of money? How is that good news.

This will be the one and only game I fund on kickstarter, if there is a paypal way.

This is like the LSL KS, in that I'm a little hesitant when they (seemingly) had funding before, but once KS got popular, here they are.

I've not read everything about the KS, maybe they hope to employ more people and get it done sooner?

It seems they have two guys working on it full-time who are basically not drawing ANY money whatsoever, and then they have a few guys who work at other studios during the day, then spend their spare time working on Grim Dawn.

They also say they WILL get the game finished without additional funding, but if they get what they're asking for, they can hire some of those part-time guys to come work full-time, so they'd be able to get it done faster, and create more content.

They're already talking about what they'll do if they get five or ten times what they ask for, so they do apparently have dollar signs in their eyes... but it seems pretty reasonable what they're asking for and if you're excited about this (type of) game, giving them some cash so they can add more content, and allow you to get it for 18 bucks seems like a pretty smart deal.

I just still have a really, really sour taste in my mouth over what they did with Titan Quest and its expansion, and the fucking "Make the game virtually unplayable" bug they left in it. So I'm still debating on whether to give these guys any money. I have a nasty suspicion that Grim Dawn will see the exact same level of after-release support as the TQ expansion did (read: ZERO.)

Seeing as they have only two full-time employees, I'd say that's a possibility. And they were talking about running out of funds long before KS became fashionable.

They want money to pay for a trip to the GDC. Pass.

From what I've seen I'm not sold on this game anyway.

TQ was awesome - they are talented devs and I want them to make this.

So ... I 'pre-purchased' it through the kickstart; since I'll be buying it anyway.

Man I don't give a shit anymore. Either these guys offer paypal or proper european payment providers. Or I buy the game when it's out on a sale on some store that takes 40%. Fuck this, offer paypal OR other accepted EU providers option or don't get my money. (I am not talking about Kickstarter)
