EA: Tanks for the Warhammer 40K Inspiration?

This image from Reddit builds the case that a tank design for Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances appears quite similar to a Games Workshop-designed tank from the Warhammer 40K series. Games Workshop is known for fiercely defending its intellectual property rights, so there is rampant speculation that if this claim turns out to be valid, legal action is likely to follow. Thanks Strategy Informer.

If you think that's bad, check out this other tank they copied identically.

You guys did actually look at the picture right? I love the 40k universe, but kind-of hate Games Workshop for a lot of their polcies...

But that's pretty obviously a nearly exact copy of a Baneblade. The designer should have at least mixed it up a bit if he was going to use a 40k tank as inspiration.

While I generally agree because, let's face it, GW's Genestealers were a direct rip-off, sorry, "inspired" by Alien/Aliens, I can't help but think that EA wouldn't hesitate to sue a company for stealing its designs. So I'm not sure why GW shouldn't be allowed to protect its work.

Harmony Gold sued FASA for "borrowing" designs for some of its mechs (Rifleman, Excalibur, Veritech, etc.)

Oh boy, Games Workshop is perhaps the most litigation-happy company out there, going as far as taking down fan-made help assists for their own games, nevermind anything more creative like stories. If GW sues EA it's going to be a hell of battle. Whoever loses we all win, so hopefully GW goes ahead and both lose.

Indeed.. wtf

That tank is in key points different. I say, let them sue, and let EA kick Game Workshop ass. Because that'd be extremely lame, to sue over a stupid model.
