Ships Ahoy - Legend of Grimrock

The Legend of Grimrock Website announces the release of Almost Human's dungeon crawler, which is available at a 10% discount from their site, GOG.com and Steam. Here's a release trailer, and here's a bit on the game:

Legend of Grimrock is a dungeon crawling role playing game with an oldschool heart but a modern execution. A group of prisoners are sentenced to certain death by exiling them to the secluded Mount Grimrock for vile crimes they may or may not have committed. Unbeknownst to their captors, the mountain is riddled with ancient tunnels, dungeons and tombs built by crumbled civilizations long perished now. If they ever wish to see daylight again and reclaim their freedom the ragtag group of prisoners must form a team and descend through the mountain, level by level.

The game brings back the oldschool challenge with highly tactical real-time combat and grid-based movement, devious hidden switches and secrets as well as deadly traps and horrible monsters. Legend of Grimrock puts an emphasis on puzzles and exploration and the wits and perception of the player are more important tools than even the sharpest of swords could be. And if you are a hardened dungeon crawling veteran and you crave an extra challenge, you can arm yourself with a stack of grid paper and turn on the Oldschool Mode which disables the luxury of the automap! Are you ready to venture forth and unravel the mysteries of Mount Grimrock?

I am a terrible person - I've seen the game's title pop up here and there, but I just wrote it off as another indie fad.

Noting the comments, I checked out the website and watched the demo video...and immediately purchased it. This looks like a good, straight forwarded classic PC dungeon crawler. Huzzah!
Nice, clean look to it, too.
Edit: "MapViewOfFile failed." /Sigh /DamnIndies
Edit 2: Ninja-patch fixed my issue. Back to Huzzah!

Down to a handful of quests in Skyrim; going to be playing this soon,
Ray

Damn, game kept locking up and then my screen would go black and it would come back only to do it again. Then it sent my video card into a crashing fit ending with a blue screen. Last game this happened to me with was Bastion and I never got it working despite upgrading various drivers.

Hopefully getting the newest video driver will fix this and not be Bastion all over again for me

Really didn't want to deal with this stuff today (or ever).

Does Bastion still not work?

I tried after the past two driver updates I did but it still kept crashing. I suppose I'll try again after today's upgrade. Current drivers are from December.

Here is my 2 year old machine.

edit: Oh and the Bastion demo in the browser worked just fine

Also not sure where the price difference is you guys are referring to.

I see $13.49 on their site now, and $13.49 on Steam.

Pre-order price I paid directly from their site was $11.99.

Edit: Of course there is also the bonus stuff that came from ordering directly, that at least currently is not on Steam.

Not that I doubt Ill love this game and think it was worth every penny. But I just realized its cheaper on Steam and I would have saved a few bucks had I not pre-ordered directly from them. I feel kind of duped.

=\

You also got a DRM free version if you pre-ordered directly from the website...So you actually got 2 copies for $12.

Hmmmmmm. I did not consider that. Good point. I just checked the link from the registration email and sure enough there it is. Thanks for the reminder. =)

Takes a bit to get into the rhythm for combat but after that it's good. The magic system is far too cumbersome. Otherwise I'm loving every minute of it.

Yeah, it's perfectly understandable that that wouldn't make the best first impression with potential customers.

I bought it off their web site and assumed it would be the same as the steam price...

Oh well, something to look out for next time...

Right. You get me. And I agree. Lesson learned. I bought off their site too paying through humble bundle. Either way... my weekend will now be filled with dungeon crawling. Ahhhhhh it's been years since a nice dungeon crawler like this.

Wow it's not often that something gets unviversal praise here, so how does this play? like the old dungeon masters and dungeon crawlers.. just better?

Oh I even emailed them directly and mentioned this. But I told them I don't want the difference. I just wanted them to know that seems like a stinker kind of thing to do.

Well, if it makes you feel any better at all, those dollars went directly to the dev.

Even though I haven't played yet, I again will state it was probably worth every dollar. And from the few reactions here so far I seem to be right.

I am very happy some one made a game like this. I just hope in the future they re-evaluate these kinds of promotions.

I still can't wait to get home and play it. And awesome sauce they get every dollar. Indie Devs for the win. =)

Mine did the same thing. I initially expected the preorder to kick off the main game download, and when it didn't, I went looking in the list, trying to find it. The preorder was gone, but the main game was there.

After playing a couple of hours I knew this was my GOTY. It'll take an amazing game to replace this one. This game is everything I wished and more and when the modtools come and we start seeing custom dungeons or remakes of old dungeon crawlers...

This is a 10/10 game. Perfect in everything it does.

Best $12 I have spent in a long time. Old school mode = heaven. My desk is covered in eraser shavings. I haven't drawn game maps in ages.

Very rarely is a game exactly as good as I hoped. 30 minutes in, it's everything I wanted it to be.

REALLY hope it sells well for them!
