Out of the Blue

Well, just as I start using my new extra-hot man-stove, the county where we reside has issued a "red flag" warning based on the possibility of wildfires due to the dry windy conditions in the area, where the drought condition has been upgraded to "severe." This does not actually prohibit grilling, but it does give pause. I wonder if I could actually spin this as a reason to move the grill on the deck to *prevent* a fire hazard? Probably not. Well, at least the forecast calls for the possibility of showers this week, so maybe that will help.

I recall a hardware site doing a very thorough comparison using a variety of methods. That should've put it to rest, though I don't remember the "answer".

Personally I just use stock everything, and if that includes some manufacturer applied thermal paste then that's what I stay with. Never had an issue.

Hey, at least it was a friendly debate, back then.

Where's Ray? He always got upset about the goop.

Bah!...a grill on the lawn, next you'll be telling us you "spread" your thermal compound on the CPU.

SPREADING IS THE ONLY PROPER WAY!

The last rebuild I did I didn't even use any special goop - - I just used the pre-installed glob that was on the fan.

I remember when this was really a hot-button issue ....

It still is. I wipe all that crap off and apply a very nice portion then level it out with a credit card or similar device. Evenly distributed across the connection, then wipe excess off once parts are secured.

Just broke 40 hours on Slyrim. Level 21, and just made a dash to Riften. Hadn't been here yet. I don't feel like I am even scratching the surface of the game. Only have fought 4 dragons so far......

I can speak up for grill pads, we have a big one on the deck out back and it's been fine for the past few years. Most of the time when people have deck fires its because they took no precautions.

Look on the bright side - we have snow coming down here. Nothing accumulating, but we're three weeks removed from having temperatures approach 90 in Southwest Michigan.

Mother Nature is clearly off her meds.

5. Grill Pads Apr 10, 2012, 13:48 toT

Blue, you can buy pads to put underneath the grill that supposedly protect from fire/sparks as well as drips and such...

Grill Pads

Full disclosure - I have never used these, no idea how well they actually work, but it might be worth looking into

Yep. Yell Mrs. Blue she may very well be responsible for burning the county down if the grill doesn't get moved to the deck.
