The Secret World Interview

An interview on Ten Ton Hammer chats with Joel Bylos and Ragnar Tornquist of Funcom to attempt to uncover some secrets of The Secret World, the upcoming conspiratorial MMORPG. They discuss the game's unusual theme and gameplay, what sort of play styles are supported, and the game's whole air of mystery, and how this will not be spoiled through casual Google searches.

I had high hopes that Funcom would not repeat the mistakes of AO and Conan, but then I saw that they include melee weapons like hammers in the new game, which is just the same old fantasy rehash.

The game is set in a modern conspiracy-theory type setting, not a fantasy setting.

If you don't like where gaming is heading, stop giving your money to the people who are taking it in that direction.

Really looking forward to this one. I think Funcom realizes this is a make or break game for them.

I'm just glad to see a developer doing something that isn't a WoW-clone or swords and sorcery GenericFantasy setting.

This won't be a huge hit regardless of what they do. I'll be surprised if it's even a mild success.

Really hope they can pull it off by focusing on the first 40 levels and make them as good as the first 20 level in AoC, it would be a huge hit. They drove off a cliff when they released AoC with 70 or 80 max cap and 40 levels of no good content.
The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.
