Then when you are hunting and come across loot, you keep what can help and leave the rest instead of hording it and making run backs to the merchant every few minutes. Thinking I may need another million gold for whoever knows what. Well, I wouldn't mind this barter system so much if players got a skill to ID items or something, because it bugs my OCD to not be able to ID every single blue/yellow item I run across. As it is now, it is not financially possible to do so, which bugs me personally to no end.
If there is a skill or NPC/quest to ID items, I have missed it so far, in Act II. |

There are a number of quite interesting change-ups this game has. Balancing is actually surprisingly good as well, yes it will start out really easy, but not to far in, pretty good. In most games of this genre it starts out way to easy and remains easy for seemingly forever. You pray for a way to make the game challenging.
Still love how Din's Curse gives the player so many settings and sliders for game play.
As for Torchlight 2, waiting... |

This can't come out soon enough.
OT: Anyone playing the Path of Exile beta? Thoughts? Path of Exile is currently in an open beta weekend. After this weekend, those characters will be available (supposedly) once it goes live, or you get into closed beta before live release.
That said, I'm in the closed beta now, and... Path of Exile currently is mediocre at best. The skill system is fairly interesting, but the passive skill map is more cumbersome than cool, in my opinion. I need to do some hard research on the viability of armor vs hp vs dodge vs energy shield for example, before I feel comfortable leveling up in certain paths. This is a good thing long term, but this information is NOT available in game, and only sporadically online, and of course it is changing over the course of the beta anyway.
Combat in PoE is arguably less fun than D3, at least on a Marauder(think Barbarian). The abilities are fun, right up until you try the leaping attack, and see your guy hover slowly for a few seconds. This is more of an animation issue I guess, but the targeting is off also.
Still, it's early beta, I will continue to play PoE and try other classes. It has potential, at least.
The money/barter system is somewhat annoying at first, I blew through many of my ID scrolls before I realized they were the main currency in the game. I'd rather have gold honestly, it makes it a gamble simply to ID a random blue(magic item)... not fun.
*Note* Content is currently limited to just the first two acts. |

Yes, can't wait for this to come out.
And to answer a bit about Path of Exile, it seems pretty interesting. Haven't played a lot yet, but it's cool. Looks nice, controls are good, and has some interesting mechanics. For one, the potion system is pretty awesome. Like Dungeon Siege, you only drink what you need, and also, your potions fill up as you kill enemies. Skills are derived from gems that you socket to your equipment. 'Normal' skill tree is somewhat all passive stuff. But it's freaking gigantic. Pretty overwhelming when you first look at it.
Back on topic, I think I'll go ferret, just because that's what I used in the first game. Brings back memories of Beastmaster |
