Mount & Blade Warband: Napoleonic Wars Announced

Paradox Interactive announces Mount & Blade Warband: Napoleonic Wars, a multiplayer DLC pack for Mount & Blade Warband in the works at Flying Squirrel Entertainment and Taleworlds Entertainment for release later this spring. This trailer shows off a little of what this will bring to the action/RPG, and here's word: "Napoleonic Wars will support multiplayer battles of up to 250 soldiers and enables players the chance to create a character from 220 unique units available, all hailing from five different European nations. Fight battles with your tried and true sabre or utilize newly introduced artillery pieces such as cannons and rockets in this historically accurate and immersive 19th century experience like no other." Here's a feature list:

  • Accurate early 19th century weapons, uniforms and environments
  • Massive multiplayer battles with up to 250 players
  • 5 nations with more than 220 unique units to choose from
  • A wide range of artillery pieces ranging from field cannons to mortars, capable of firing a variety of missiles such as canister, explosive shells and even rockets - all fully controllable by players
  • Finely crafted game balance insuring player skill is the hero of the battlefield, not the gun or the sword
  • Construct barricades, dig trenches, and rig explosives with the multi-purpose Engineer class
  • Special musician units with drums, fifes, bagpipes or trumpets, able to play historically accurate tunes; all recorded and played by award winning musicians
  • Lead squads of soldiers against each other in the new commander battle mode
  • More than 40 classical background music tracks

Fire and sword was godawful compared to Warband. Warband + mods is still far and away the best of the series.

Played Fire & Sword the first time 2 nights ago.

Within 3 minutes 5 horsemen captured me as I was on foot, taking all my goods which was basically nothing. I eventually got free when we were at a Castle. I tried to run again, stopped every turn by the same horsemen "give us your money or die" my response "I have nothing!" horsemen "Ok, we will let you go his time"

Every turn this happened, they would never leave me alone, over and over, 10 times in a row.

I loooooooved warband and I bought fire and sword just to help support the company, even though the game was essentially the same as the mods already out. But this is kinda dumb, they are doing the same exact thing and releasing what is essentially just a warband mod for money. Bah I say! Bah!

Nice to see they're doing well enough to release another title.
I could not care less about this, but it's good to see all the same.
Wish they'd ditch the engine, this will be four titles on the same code base (plus a few new bells and whistles).

Wow, I've been wondering why there were no updates to Mount and Musket. It was starting to get stale and the Deluge isn't nearly as popular. I hope they release this beast soon!
