| It will only be the equivalent of Skyrim in terms of graphics. I do not think there is a free-to-play audience of 200 million for a game like Skyrim because Skyrim's gameplay and backstory are too complex and time consuming for the kind of mainstream audience that could generate a player base of 200 million. To get to 200 million you need a fundamentally different, dumbed-down style of gameplay designed for those with short attention spans. Plus, you will not attract any of the current true hardcore gaming audience with a paid cheating business model where you are constantly nickeled-and-dimed for every meaningful in-game upgrade. You will have to try and find an audience among the crowds of sheep playing Zynga games. |

"free to play" on smartphones simply means "deeply annoying microtransactions required."
not impressed by free to play. |

Actually... Zenimax Online Studios (Bethesda's Parent Company) has been working on an MMO since 2007. It is most likely going to be TES Online.
Of course, they aren't the same studio that makes the single player game... but I'm sure a majority of the design is influenced by "Bethesda Game Studios".
So, 2 years for a free to play "skyrim" may not be all that off base. |
