Out of the Blue

Well I'm off a bit today for the aftermath of my recent tooth extraction. When I went for a follow-up a couple of weeks ago, I pointed out a small protuberance in the area, which turns out to be a bone fragment. The doctor is pretending a decision about this will be made today, but we both know his plan is to remove it. When he broached that, I asked: So more surgery? He replied: A minor "procedure." Of course procedure is code for surgery, but I'm trusting he's right about the "minor" part and that this won't be a big disruption.

Blue, I will have to get my old infected, decayed wisdom tooth extracted/pulled/yanked too soon. It will be too difficult and expensive for anyone to put a crown on it. I don't chew and can't open wide, so it is pointless to keep it. Soon, I will be teethless like a very old man. Wait, I am old already!

And this is why New Yorkers that relocate to the Midwest, such as myself, hate this place so much. Bagels are just varieties of bread, pizza crust is just varieties of bread, etc.

I need to move to a coast.

Incidentally, it's also one of the reasons why people in the Midwest hate New Yorkers that relocate out there.

You shouldn't need to make a major deal out of a bit of dead bone. I had an extraction lately (Second to last tooth on the left side, was filled years ago but split open and had to be taken out) and pieces are coming out of it like mad. I can easily nudge them out with my tongue, but one piece wouldn't move so I went to the dentist and he just grabbed some pliers, cranked the piece out, shoved some gauze in my mouth and let me go on my way. Took all of....3 minutes.

If it really is just a small bone fragment, and this is very likely (picture the edges of the hole after pulling a big nail out of wood and you'll get the idea), it really is *very* minor to remove. If you need anything at all, a small topical anesthetic like lidocaine is probably enough, a truly tiny incision, and then maybe just one stitch. So really, no worries.

The best bagel is Ess-a-Bagel in NYC. it's true.

One of the many often picked with Murray's. I vote Murray's just because it was the neighborhood place.

You could leave the bone fragment where it is. Your jaw will eventually push it out on its own, and suddenly you'll have a small piece of bone in your mouth. Spit it out and voila.

But it really is a fairly minor procedure. Unless it's fused to your jaw, in which case he'd have to get a 13" drill and just drill a hole in your jaw, and... Blue? Blue?!

:p

I didn't know 5, at all. I thought I knew 2, but missed it also. The rest seemed pretty easy.

100% on the Quiz, though I guessed on Question 5 and had no clue Orson Scott Card wrote the insults, though it was easy to figure out what game.

Ok, I'm a fan of ST and all but.....wtf? Can you fans not come up with good original characters/stories or what?

I was rewatching "The People Vs George Lucas" the other day (still highly recommended) and it reminds me of some comments made in there, specifically that people love the world/characters so much that they basically want to reenact/play the characters they love.

There's tons of new Star Trek stuff out there. It's everywhere.

People like the original and want stories to continue with that cast too though.

I'll give it a watch.
