Blizzard announces a May 15th release date for Diablo III, saying this is when the action/RPG sequel will be available at retail in many territories, and digitally in others. They have kicked off presales of the game on this page, offering the game in either form, as well as in a USD $99.99 alabaster-white retail Collector's Edition. They also offer a reminder that a free copy of the game is to be had for those who sign up for a World of Warcraft annual pass. Here's word:

In Diablo III, players take on the role of one of five heroic characters -- barbarian, witch doctor, wizard, monk, or demon hunter -- and engage in pulse-pounding combat with endless legions of evil. As they undertake an epic quest to rid Sanctuary from the corrupting forces of the Burning Hells, players will explore diverse and perilous settings, grow in experience and ability, acquire artifacts of incredible power, and meet key characters who’ll join them in battle or aid them in other ways.

Diablo III was built from the ground up to leverage the full functionality of the Battle.net platform, which delivers powerful matchmaking and communication tools, allowing adventurers to seamlessly join forces for exciting cooperative play. Battle.net also provides a secure infrastructure for the Diablo III auction house, a feature-rich marketplace that Sanctuary’s heroes can use to trade their hard-earned treasures. Players will be able to buy and sell weapons, armor, and other valuable items in the auction house in exchange for in-game gold. Players will also have the option to receive real-world currency for auction house sales, which they can apply to their Battle.net Balance for the purchase of a variety of digital products through Battle.net, including Diablo III auction house items, or cash out through a third-party payment service such as PayPal™ in most regions. Further details related to the auction house will be announced in the coming weeks.

Really no reason not to buy the game off of Battle.net directly. It will unlock at midnight so you won't even need to drive home from a midnight release or anything. Plus, Amazon sometimes fails to deliver games on release day even with their guarantee (happened to me with Dark Souls). A hacker could hack Gamestop's databases too, you know.

Due to my unstable internet connection the only way I'll be buying this is if the pirates come out with a decent offline mode. Yes, I will actually buy the game if a third party cracks it. FU Activision/Blizzard.

But I'd say the DH is my favorite, or 2nd fav. I rather like the Rapid Fire skill. Played a Hardcore Wizard through the beta last night (first time since Runes added) and it was pretty awesome watching bodies explode after I got the first Rune for Shock Pulse. May 15th cant come soon enough!

And I felt similarly (started a hardcore DH the other day)... Now that Bola was moved up in the 'tree', your only 'early' AOE option is the snare generator (forget the name), which hits 2 targets... not a big deal, but once it's runed (at 7?), it hits 4, and is awesome... I personally enjoy the bola, because delayed damage is fun for me (as well as DoTs), but the 4 target snare attack is great on groups (partly because it chains, literally and literally ). -Alamar

Im guessing there was nothing wrong with it, because it was never functional.

At some point people had to realize Activision was going to force their hand and say "ship the damn thing" Blizzard imo doesn't deserve a pass for having such inept project management that they require a decade per game. Especially since most of their games are tweaked sequels to begin with.

DH is just weak for DPS in the beta. None of the skills offer good, quick AoE damage, something every other class has.

Anyways, I've just been playing through the beta again and I am still on the fence. Feels like the magic might be gone.

May/June is going to be a packed field for online RPGs/MMORPGs with this, The Secret World, TERA and potentially Guild Wars 2 all coming out in those two months. Granted I don't really care about any of them but GW2. I'll certainly give them a try but if it comes right down to it I'll wait a few extra months on each of them if need be. Really didn't like the DH at first - but when I went back later, found it enjoyable. As a side note, you can start the pre-download if you've signed up for the annual pass...!
