Double Fine Kickstart Ending; Wasteland 2 Kickstart Beginning

Double Fine Adventure by Double Fine and 2 Player Productions Kickstarter Campaign will conclude today, offering the last chance to earn supporter rewards (thanks nin). They passed the $3 million plateau last night, so the game's $400,000 budget seems pretty covered. In other Kickstarter news, the promised Wasteland 2 by inXile entertainment Kickstarter Campaign is now underway to fund the $900,000 budget for the post-apocalyptic RPG sequel. They offer their own set of supporter rewards, and the following outline of the project:

For Wasteland 2, we’re getting the band back together again!. Brian Fargo who Executive Produced both Wasteland and Fallout will be heading the team. Alan Pavlish and Mike Stackpole—the original game’s primary designers—are coming back to put the project together, and we’re rounding up as many of the other designers, like Ken St. Andre, as we can. On top of that, we’ll have music by Mike Morgan of Fallout 1 and 2 fame. The storyline for Wasteland 2 was written by Jason Anderson who was the co-creator of Fallout. We have also enlisted the help of the amazing concept artist, Andree Wallin to help craft the Wasteland 2 world.

KS funded more than 500 games since its beginning, according to the DF party.

The whole dev team is from O.C. too! So this means the money stays in the local economy & that's awesome news...since I live in O.C. =)

You shouldn't be too surprised on the large donations. Let's face it, a lot of the vet developers are all pretty well-off if not outright wealthy by this point so kicking in a $1k plus really isn't that big a deal. Hell they've already got 27 people donating 1k so far and the thing has just launched! They're already over a 1/3rd of the way there a few hours into this so they should probably go well over their goal without too much trouble.

And that film was hilarious. "Would I f**king be here if I did angry birds?" Haha! I love Fargo!

Damn, the funding of this project is being more impressive than the one from DF. The DF party is also quite insane and fun.

In for a hundo. I never buy collector editions either. I just want a resurgence of "boring" turn based games.

Although that poster would look good in my basement where I'm writing this from.

I'm with you, I would absolutly like to have a signed Poster!

What if...

Moulyneaux came out and said he would make a remake of Populous or Powermonger or even Syndicate?
Braben came out and said he would make Elite 4?
Garriot would come out and make a true successor to Ultima?
Sensible Software got together again and made a real Cannon Fodder 3?
Bitmap Brothers together to make Xenon 3?

And they wouldn't suck? One can dream...

Molyneaux is flush with cash and I don't think people would be as on-board. No one trusts him and he's had the cash/clout to do anything he wants any time he wants.
I think Braben, Sensible and BB would get money but not like this. People remember Wasteland better and Brian Fargo has remained a relevant name.

When Chris Roberts comes out and says he needs funding for Wing Commander, though, all hell will break loose.

Any over/unders on this? I'm saying it falls short of Schaefer's, but maybe in total donations, not total cash.

I do believe that if Braben came out and said, I need x dollars to make Elite 4 all hell would break loose like nothing on Kickstarter before. Many, many people remember Elite and Frontier, IMO more than those that remember Wing Commander I dare to say. WC and E4 are 2 projects that would get all the money though, no doubt about that.

But it also makes me nervous when someone grabs a 10K spot or the like, as I fear they might not come through. (DF has passed 3 million, but as someone pointed out there, how many of those charges won't go through?)
I believe Kickstarter has stats on that, I think its a few percent typically under 5% if I remember correctly. Most of them aren't for fraud though. Remember that amazon does a credit auth hold on the card when you kickstart (although they don't actually charge until the kickstarter is successfully completed). So the $10k buyer has a auth hold on his card to verify that he can afford it.

Also, you can adjust your pledge up or down all the way up until the end of the kickstarter. So if you have buyers remorse you can drop a $10k reward down to $1 (probably even cancel it alltogether at $0 too).

So I doubt many of those $10k pledges that stay until the end are going to suddenly decide to do a chargeback.

Yeah, those crazy, mixed up French-Canadians.

Did you know France always runs from a fight? It's true! I bet they also run from an opportunity, and take all that fan-driven money with them.

You're probably right. This will never happen. Damn Frenchies. >:O
