Take On Helicopters Patch

The Take On Helicopters Website now offers the new version 1.04 "Cougar" patch for Bohemia Interactive's flight simulator. The patch can be applied to any version of the game except those distributed through Steam. The download is mirrored on AtomicGamer, Gamer's Hell, and The Patches Scrolls. Here are highlights of the new version:

  • Massive flight model upgrade (RotorLib 4.0)
  • Initial introduction of Java scripting
  • DRM-free for users of legitimate installations
  • FXAA and SMAA support added (new anti-aliasing techniques)
  • Time Trial functionality improvements

I would think it'd be a lot more expensive to code an engine that can simulate air currents, resonance effects and shifting pivots easily.

They figured they use Arma 2 engine probably thinking "how hard could it be" ... except Arma 2 was a total joke when it came to physics... and they took that and added a flight dynamic simulation that couldn't even simulate a drone, not to mention an actual helicopter.

But yes, i know they have no license for real helicopters and thus no contact from actual developers. Wonder why they didn't try to get some of the heli manufacturers on board and with that a license... heli makers probably would love a civilian well made sim with gameplay and good graphics to advertise their heli's

It seems BIS doesn't understand the physics of the effects involved, or can not code them in a real time sim.
BIS believe in building everything from scratch without anyone's help or licensing code (sadly costs $$) that'd aid them.

DRM-free for users of legitimate installations
Means the DRM is still there to verify that, so its not DRM "free" at all.

Massive flight model upgrade (RotorLib 4.0)
You can put wings on a brick but when you check it's still a brick.

The flight model upgrade is a joke still, some issues fixed, some others (elementary things) are not in. Also helicopters still do not fly nor land like real helicopters... It seems BIS doesn't understand the physics of the effects involved, or can not code them in a real time sim.
