BTW blues thanks for leaving me hanging with he email I sent you early yesterday about the beta going live. Appreciate that!!

Why in the world would you take that personally? He must get dozens if not a couple hundred emails a day about announcements, game news, stories of note, etc. I think it's unreasonable to expect him to respond or even act on every one.

I am a complete n00b to this game. Should I buy this expansion or buy the original game for a lot cheaper?

This is not an expansion; it’s a standalone game and does not require the original game to run. So buy this game. I’m on the beta and played a four hour game with two other friends against the aI. Was a lot of fun The AI is not working fully yet. But it’s an early beta and will have a lot of patches in the coming weeks.

Getting a Titan to level 5 (required to get overdrive) is enough to limit the pwnage of that. What they really need to do is give pirates their own titan, because its pretty easy to get a Titan to level 5 if you just sent it into the pirate base

With overdrive you can do 4000 damage which mitigates down as much as 60% if the ship is in combat. So you can't really insta kill much and overdrive + snipe do cost a lot of antimatter...

What the real problem is though is the AI, which for some reason is as braindead as teh first unpacked SOTS release version

You goto the website to order, login with your 'stardock' account (email) and then the new price of 29.99 will show. After you order you should get the cd key in your email, then just activate on steam. Worked for me and i got my key pretty instantly.

I tried both sides so far (just TEC, you cant eve play vs the vanilla advent/vasari). The change seems interesting....corvettes are kinda like heavy fighters, i can see those getting out of hand as they only take up 1 supply and cost like 100metal. The Titans are pretty badass, some of their abilities like the snipe from the TEC Rebellion seem WAY overpowered.....2000 damage at level 1, with a FAST refresh....say bye bye to your capital ships. Also it seems like no matter what map i pick it will pick the same map with 2 stars. I also had 1 crash so far.

Has prommise

Wow, missed that.

<Heads over to steam to preorder.>

edit: Damn, not there?

I wholeheartedly agree with posts 1,2,3, and 7.

Glad it's using Steamworks, too. Impulse when it was owned by Stardock meant no service was required to be running, but they got bought by the horrid Gamestop, so they are wise to throw their lot in with the better compo any imo.

Love space strategy games, but really dislike Sins. Not sure why it is so popular.

Downloaded the beta, having pre-ordered Rebellion months ago.

It's pretty good, TEC only of course, but.... WHAT THE HELL? Steam ONLY!?

What happened to Impulse/Gamestop, aka not running a client in the background while playing Sins of a Solar Empire?

Hopefully the retail release doesn't require Steam, but it's probably already too late.

Impulse was owned by Stardock, publisher of SoaSE. Now that that's no longer the case, they're free to go wherever they want. And regardless of anyone's feelings, Steam still have a stellar reputation with both devs and most customers. It's a pretty safe bet for them.

Was really hoping that after this long they'd have started to support multiple cores. All of the epic-sized games we'd want to play are severely limited by this game only running on one CPU, and we wind up seeing a slideshow.

Haven't been following this one, but seeing how much I loved the last one, it's an instant buy.

The only thing that really lacks from Sins is a good single player campaign for each of the races.
