I love Windows 7. I expect I will refrain from upgrading for as least as long as I did with XP. Windows 8 isn't even a blip on my radar.

I think that sums me up perfectly, also. As critical of MS as I am, I think 7 is probably their best OS to date, as far as stability.

Metro isn't a selling point to me, and from everything I've seen, I'll never use it.

Taking a pass on Windows 8, putting a Tablet OS on my PC is like putting a bike tire on my car.

I'm getting my new Windows 7 PC while I can. I suffered through Vista, never again.

Windows 9 will be when its safe again.

What puke wrapper? My Transformer tablet has no wrapper, it is about as clear pure wrapper less Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as it gets.
I am definitely not interested in running this xbox dashboard looking OS on my tablet or phone and definitely not on my PC.

Not sure what the Transformer uses, but phones almost always use Sense, Blur, etc., and it's all hideous garbage. Not that vanilla Android is much better looking.

Asus (which is what I have) Samsung some of the brands that uses pretty much pure Android OS on their tablet, no wrappers. I think Samsung phones are the same, like the Galaxy Nexus is a Google phone and usually gets the latest and greatest updates first.

What do you mean by storage space? Is it taking up less space then Windows 7?

No sorry, it's the new drive pooling features. Almost like software raid but with better capabilities. Unfortunately the write speeds are pretty slow but that's the sacrifice for the increased functionality.

Anyway it's at least something useful unlike Metro which is pretty much terrible for everything so far. If you don't have a reason to run it outside of curiosity then I'd suggest not wasting the time. I've used it on a tablet and didn't like it and Windows Phone's lack of success speaks for itself. It's even worse on the desktop, particularly the shoehorned start tiles which is just such a bad idea it boggles the mind. Oh well, they'll learn the hard way as usual. Even a lot of the diehard Microsoft fanboys at Ars are panning Windows 8, it's receiving some nearly Vista levels of vitriol so far.

Metro can blow me, terrible fucking interface.

Disagreed heavily. Metro is absolutely amazing compared to the dead grid of iOS or the fisher price color puke of virtually every Android UI wrapper you're forced to use (seriously, Motoblur? Go to hell, Motorola.)

But that's on a 4" screen. It makes zero sense on a 24" screen.

I didn't like Zune at all (software). It felt like a limited version of Itunes at the time. It couldn't read all the files, some of the mp3 files with higher bit ratios were not readable for the software and other crap like that.

They may have improved it lately but back when I've tried it I didn't like it at all.

Fair enough. Never had nor heard of that problem, it plays everything I've ever thrown at it and most of my library is static/HBR stuff. I only stopped using it awhile ago because Microsoft won't support it anymore but it has pretty every feature a user could need and a good interface. I found on forums in the past it got savaged by Apple fanboys and many people who never used it it in the first place, it's a damned shame.

Oh and Windows 8 sucks. I've been using the developer preview for awhile and the consumer preview is no improvement. In fact the only Windows 8 feature I care about at all is storage spaces, everything else is meh. Metro can blow me, terrible fucking interface.

The Zune software and player were actually really, really good dude. The only shitty thing is the dumb Zune video service on the Xbox but thats just a rebranding of something else. Seriously though the Zune stuff kicked ass, it languished behind a way too late launch and bad parenting from Microsoft.

The Zune software is the best personal playback software outside of a hugely customized foobar 2k setup.

The Zune video service on Xbox is just a standard video rental service. Prices are comparable to anything else, and there's no reason to dislike it if video renting is your thing. It's often a dollar cheaper than renting via my cable box.

I'm also one of those rare people around here that thinks Windows has improved with each version not Me, so I'm taking a wait-and-see on Windows 8.
