A Message from Jay Wilson offers Blizzard's outlook on expectations for Diablo III, forced to react to a comment by a community manager on the topic that was widely taken as an official statement (thanks Blizzplanet). Jay responds to the idea of lowering expectations by raising them, and also raises expectations of when to expect the release of their action/RPG sequel, saying: "you can seriously expect a launch-date announcement from us in the near future. See, I didn’t say 'soon,' so I’m not taunting you. ;)" Here's word: Jay Wilson wanted to share a message with the Diablo III community:
Some of you might have seen some headlines or a certain (obviously sarcastic) blue post that implies that we're unsteady about where Diablo III stands, and that you should temper your expectations when it comes to the next installment in the Diablo series.
Let me be clear: Nothing could be further from the truth.
As those of you in the beta have seen, the game is in good shape. Actually, I should say that the beta version of the game is in good shape. The latest full build we've been testing here in the office is in great shape.
We get a lot of sympathy from the other teams because of the long hours of crunch our design team is putting in, but the secret is that playing through the game as we do final tuning, bug fixes, and optimizations is a real joy. We always know a Blizzard game is almost ready when we have to ask members of the team to stop playing so they can get their work done. That’s definitely been the case around here.
We think you're going to love Diablo III when it's released, and speaking of release plans, you can seriously expect a launch-date announcement from us in the near future. See, I didn’t say “soon,” so I’m not taunting you. ;) You’ll know as soon as I know for sure the exact date.
And by the way, we want you to have high expectations for Diablo III and all Blizzard games. That’s what pushes us to try to make the best gaming experiences we possibly can. If Diablo III wasn’t a worthy next installment in the Diablo series, we wouldn’t release it. That’s the way we do it. That’s the way we’ve always done it.
As I’ve said many times in the recent past, we think Diablo III is coming along great and we can’t wait for you to get your hands on it. We’re doing all we can to ensure you have one hell of a time once you step foot in Sanctuary…
Also, I think Diablo is much more comparable to the Evil Dead series personally, and those just kept getting better. OK, I know a lot of you prefer Evil Dead 2 to Army of Darkness, but come on, Bruce Campbell fights a squad of little Bruce Campbells! Priceless. =)
Jay Wilson is the Game Director of Diablo 3, and wants to know “Hey, uh, what’s that you got on your face?” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxBCSautRXY

Looks dated and doesn't feel like there's any gameplay innovation whatsoever. This also isn't anything like an MMO and I'm now more convinced than ever that their always-on requirement is just straight DRM. There is no reason whatsoever that this couldn't still have a single player mode. |

It just needs a lot of work. This is likely a design decision... The merit (pro) is that people don't get spammed with a ton of information early on, that doesn't matter early on...
For those of us that want all the data now, we have online resources...
And I'm not saying it's a good design... Just offering what I think the reason for it is, and why it's good (for some players). Personally, I hate it... I want to know, at level 1, what all the skills (and runes, that you also can't see until level 6 at all) available are, so I can get a feel for what a class will be like. And I'll admit that it's moot, because I'm enjoying the combat (and hopeful it really is more challenging - not just overpoweringly hard past normal, or even just later in the story), and played each class enough to enjoy it (love AOE), so will likely play them all at least to the end boss Diablo : )
I hate that it doesn't save my gameplay settings, so I have to re-enabled displaying numbers (another thing I like that their base demographic doesn't, but at least it's toggle'able, like peek-ahead-skill-view should be) and toggling item names (on the ground), but it saves the graphic options just fine... Guess I should be thankful for that ; )

Patch 13 has it's ups and it's downs. Adding runes to the UI is an improvement, as you get access to them earlier. But the new skill/rune UI is horrible. It takes up the entire screen, is very simplistic, only showing you six skill 'slots' that, if you don't select an option in the menu, auto-assigns skills as you unlock them. You click on a slot to see what skills you can put in there but it only shows the first few skills available and nothing else, so it's impossible to see what kind of stuff you'll unlock at later levels. It just needs a lot of work.
It does do the job, by appearances, of giving you something new to play with every few levels. It probably does this up to cap, but since you cant see any but the next few skills or runes you'll unlock, there's no way of knowing what all skills you'll get or runes you'll have access to until you get close to unlocking them.
The lag people are talking about is server lag, which it is really really bad lately. But also the lag caused by how the game loads assets. Essentially the first time you do.. anything in the game, it loads that asset at that point. So the first time you use a new skill, you lag like crazy while waiting for the game to load the animation, sfx, etc for that new skill. So combined with the server lag it has made the game a real pain, especially in those first few levels of a new character. Thankfully once each asset has been loaded, it never has to again. |

| If you get variable latency issues then the game gets quite unstable unfortunately and a by-product of that is mob animations being kind of wacky. I'm assuming that's what his problem is anyway. The game has improved a lot in beta, most of the non-trolls are relatively happy with the game itself. That said its been a long wait and an actual release date would be nice instead of this silly nonsense. |

I think someone needs to get a better pc or get his ISP checked. And btw, we have played thru the beta through several versions up to the latest and with each it’s only gotten better. |

I find it funny that some people have no problem with Blizzards always on DRM but never fail to castigate Ubisoft for it - and they've actually started backing away from it. |

Let the haters hate. Most probably aren't even in the beta and haven't played for themselves.

This amount of hubris is hardly surprising from the developer that effectively split Starcraft II into three different games. Won't be buying this, no matter when it's released.

I remember preparing my first pastry cake, batter, dough, whatever you call it, with my mom, as a child, and that was " a good shape " too.
Nevertheless, I am having a good time with Beta 13, as a female Demon Hunter, oh so lovely. The wrap around bomb arrows...detonate and injure those around them. I can't wait for full release, I'm afraid I'll be playing it 24hrs non stop, just to get the game over and done with.
Although, do expect a console & smartphone compatible release simultaneously with the PC, on this one. If you think I'm joking.... nope, I'm not. There is no way in Diablo's Hell, that Activision/Blizzard will release this caliber of a game for PC only, in today's times. besides, you can clearly tell by the aiming / enemy hitbox (Limitation) this game has, that this could even work on an Atari 2600, with their single button joystick and 8 directional input.
If Blizzard can fix this hitbox (to be able to target any enemy within view and angle) then this game will get a 9.8/10. As it stands, the current form of targeting gets the game no more than 8.3/10.
The music on login screen, some of the best composition ever, bar none. 128 high fidelity channels in game, also a real treat.
I do fear for the cutscenes, if they are ingame engine CG like starcraft2 was, then that is a major stepback from Diablo 2's Cinematics.
