texture pack works great with my nvidia card. You can imediately tell some textures are much cleaner and more detailed, especially clothing.
p.s. Like a few others here, I run the game via HDMI to my HDTV and it looks great and the couch is comfy. You also gain the benefit of running at native 720P, which puts less work on your PC's GPU if you have a 24 inch LCD display like I do that runs native at 1920x1200. The wireless 360 controller works with this _particular_ game well --- though I wouldnt say I would want to use a console controller for all games. |

Wowbagger_TIP wrote on Feb 7, 2012, 15:56: Ugh. There's no such thing as a FPS/TPS game where console controller is better. Thumb knobbies are horrible compared to mouse/kb precision. It's fine if that's what you like, but they certainly aren't better in any objective sense. Yes, they are. The fact that you do not have variable movement speed with a keyboard is the pure limitation of its class of control. The difference here, is that the mouse has more accurate control of direction on an X,Y scale.
Since you cannot press 1/3 of WASD, it leaves something to be desired for a "perfect" control scheme. Why would that be any kind of benefit in a FPS/TPS game? Even if it did convey a benefit, it certainly wouldn't outweigh the ridiculous loss of accuracy. That's been well-established when pitting console players against PC players.
justice7 wrote on Feb 7, 2012, 16:24: I'm as much of a PC Gamer as the next guy, quite adept with FPS gaming with the mouse, however the controller allows me to kick back on the big screen, surround sound and recliner; with PC graphics to boot. It's been said several times even here in Blues comments that the UI was made for a console. Well, the PC works as the best console on the planet. UI made for console just means it is annoying and takes too long to get to anything, not that it actually works better with a controller. It's just designed with the limitations of a controller in mind. Also, SkyUI. If people aren't using it then they are letting down humanity. |

Yeah, it looks like Steam is having issues and/or there are multiple files.
Steam says it has completed a download, I run the game, and there are still textures missing, but less than were missing before. I've restarted Steam two other times and have experienced the same thing - it does to download a file (though smaller and smaller each time,) I run the game, and a few more textures have appeared.
I'm jut not sure why Steam is saying it has finished when it obviously has not, at least not all of the file(s.)
Otherwise, once they do show up, nothing looks drastically different, but they are sharper. It doesn't seem to be killing performance either and there don't seem to be any other side effects (missing textures aside.) This is a much better texture exerience than that joke called Rage. Have I mentioned that id sucks? Up to 90 hours and still having tons of quests..., Ray |

Yeah if you are getting pink textures it means a texture is missing.
Everyone in the world is probably trying to get the texture pack so it would not surprise me if people needed to do "verify local content" a few times to make sure everything got downloaded correctly.
Downloading now.. Free stuff = can't beat that. |

There's a flag for high-res vs low res textures in bsa/esp settings now. The hack-around types of archive invalidation that have been used in the past, do, sorta, kinda work. Not on body/armor/weapon data but on static objects with solid meshes mostly. So until a perment solution is figured out, I'm guessing either a new form of AI, or always including .egt files, just know what you're installing. All I'm using right now is Enhanced Flora, Enhanced Night Sky, Enhanced Skill Interface and SkyUI. I'm hoping none of those are affected. Not using anything for armor, weapons, skin or clothing. |

Doh - this seems broken on my 2GB 6950.
The game loads and plays fine, but I now seem to be missing textures for most clothing and weapons. Nothing like going into towns or dungeons and seeing people walking around in a bluish-purple non-texture.
Edit: Speak of the devil. As I restart Steam, it is downlading a new file. Regardless, still better than anything id did. Hoping a Steam restart or a patch will fix this, Ray |

Is there going to be a new option in the menus to enable this or are all resolutions receiving better textures? Also wonder what sort of hit on performance this will have. Either way, I'm stoked.
I'd be curious of there's a way to toggle it in the options (with a restart, I'd guess). I'm assuming my card can handle it, but I'd hate to download both the game and the pack, only to have to try and revert back to the original textures (and hopefully not have to redownload anything)...
I'm downloading right now, so I'll let you know when it's done. If I had to guess, the HD textures will be an .esp or .esm that you can just select in the launcher.

Getting decent speed download on the main game - 40 minutes to go @ 1.3 meg a second. I'll prob fuck around with the main game tonight and then kick off the texture pack before bed. |

Higher resolution textures don't require any extra system performance, just more memory. If you don't have enough memory you can just kick the texture quality down a notch, or adjust other video options that effect memory like the AA level. For reference sake I checked at 1080p and 4xAA and everything else cranked, my VRAM usage was topping out at just under 1.2 GB and the game process itself was using nearly 1.3 GB.
