Out of the Blue

I normally hate the two week gap between the end of the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl, but it's that much worse when I have a rooting interest. I may need to investigate hibernation between now and then.

Hibernating Links: Thanks Ant and Mike Martinez and Acleacius.
Play: This is the Only Level 3.
Aliens Defense.
Stories: Pat Sajak Admits to Hosting Wheel of Fortune Drunk.
Wounded soldier reunites with his war puppy, Smoke. Thanks brother19.
Science: Researchers suggest a proximate cause of cancer.
Scientists reveal how females store sperm for decades. Monica?
Pairing masks and hand washing could drastically slow spread of pandemic flu.
Images: Ikea FAIL.
Media: Frog catches ants on iPhone. Thanks The Flying Penguin.
Timmy O'Riley by L. Hadron and the Colliders.
A teens introduction to an LP record.
The Funnies: The Simpsons Meets Skyrim.
Follow-up: Novel material takes 3D ‘invisibility cloak’ a step closer.

99% of these "Now!" requests aren't anywhere near urgent... yet they feel it's urgent enough to stop me on my company-mandated lunch hour.
From experience there appears to be a significant portion of people who do not believe things are done unless they see them being done.

Another group, containing mostly the same people, do not believe anyone who says they will do something, regardless of past history, therefore it must be done "now!".

Another group, again much the same people, think everything they do or require to be done is important and "now!". Occasionally that is because it actually is. But usually these people are just very bad at organising themselves and cannot cope with the extra variable of you.

I realize the "don't trust it unless I see it" mindset... I work with some people that will forget they promised something / forget they accepted a calendar invite / not read my email+text / etc. In which case seeing someone in person and such isn't that far fetched.

I don't agree with hovering, but I can accept it.

But if you see someone with a messy sandwich in their mouth and force them to stop and do something "so quickly" that they can't even go to the restroom to wash their hands... that's just being a jerk.

Come back in 30-60 minutes and ask me THEN.
