Seamless Entertainment announces the release of SOL: Exodus, saying the space shooter is now available via Steam. Here's word on the game: By the year 2500, Earth had become toxic and unsafe for human life. Pollution and overpopulation had ravaged the planet, forcing humanity to the stars. Colonies and settlements soon sprung up across the solar system, but man had not left its thirst for war behind. Then, they learned their sun was dying, and everything changed. Only when faced with threat greater than each other did the nations of man finally come together. The United Colonies of SOL (UCS) was born, its first and only mission: to locate a new home for mankind, safely beyond the doomed borders of our solar system.
Suit up and take on the role of the Lieutenant Commander, ace fighter pilot and 2nd in command of the UCS Atlas, as you search for a new home, battle a mysterious enemy, and rescue humanity from a fiery end.
Key features:
- Experience an action space shooter like no other with Unreal™-powered visuals.
- Eight epic missions take you across breathtaking landmarks of our solar system, including Pluto, Neptune, Triton, Uranus, Saturn, and Titan.
- Utilize the advanced weaponry of your UCS HADES space fighter, including dual gatling guns, tracking missiles and MAG cannon.
- Engage a variety of enemy fighters, bombers, drones and more as you protect civilian transports and defend installations from attack.
- Take down massive capital ships by hacking into them and revealing their weak points or turning their weapons on one another.
- Learn the origins of your shadowy foes as the plot unfolds through full voice-acted dialogue
- Replay missions to earn higher ranks and perform heroic actions to earn upgrade points which can be used to improve your fighter.
- Top your friends on Steam leaderboards and compare your medals with dozens of achievements to unlock!
- Fully remappable controls support USB gamepads, joysticks, and mouse/keyboard control schemes.

The game is a senseless arcade shooter that gets boring quickly. If all you're looking for is mindless arcade action go ahead and pick it up but if you're looking for serious space shooter action that has weight and depth. Sadly the game is way too simplistic. The missions are pretty canned while the production values are alright, the game itself is monotonous and it lacks a geniune feel that you are in space combat.
Freespace 2 SCP is still where it's at, get a copy of FS2 @ gog.com, hit http://scp.indiegames.us/ and get all the updates you can get way more entertainment value then this mindless indie attempt at a space sim.

I'm a few missions into SOL Exodus and really enjoying it. Pretty much all the controls you want from a classic space-sim are there from rolling, afterburner, inertial "sliding", setting speed, targeting, and so on. HUD/cockpit is somewhat barebones. The weapon and ship upgrades are rather thin, but work well and have a punch. So far as I can tell the AI is good and provides a challenge. Missions have optional side quests like keeping buddies alive and killing a certain number of ships to get higher ranks. To rearm and repair you dock with one of the friendly capital ships. The downside is it subtracts from your final score at the end of the mission, which can cut back on the number of upgrades you get. This encourages you to play smart.
Graphics are good for an indie. They aren't anything to write home about. Sound is acceptable. Music is kinda weak and out of place. The voice acting is actually good. Settings maxed out it runs great.
For a $10 space arcade sim (more arcade than simulation) made by 6 guys it's pretty astonishing how far the indie PC gaming scene has come. Hopefully it does well because they have a firm grasp on what makes space combat fun. Maybe in the future they'll get a budget and develop a worthy successor to Freespace 2.

There's a space-flight sim/shooter on Xbox 360 - it's called Project Silpheed. Anyone who has ever been a fan of X-wing, or Wing Commander, or any of the like, should try it if they have the console. It's an absolute crime the game was not on PC. It's entirely linear, but god DAMN is it good. Such a fun game.
Dunno about this one, but may try it out. That 360 game made me fiend for space shooters like nothing else, so I've been pining for something similar, more than the nostalgia of those games would lead me to, even. |

How dare they oppose our aquatic overlords!? That would be Call Of Duty (and every single scripted consolitus infected game out there including BF3)---nothing to do with fish! |

Besides, haven't you been wanting a space shooter, after playing SWTOR's 'space shooter'? : )
I'm tempted, but I need to force myself to play the games I already own, that are sitting there piling up... Or work...
