Do you know another series that combined sci-fi and action rpg gaming? /honest question ^^ Sure. Deus Ex. But Prinze's opinion wasn't as nearly as specific as yours. He simply stated that Mass Effect is the first series to successfully combine sci-fi with gaming. That means the first series to ever combine sci-fi (of any kind) and gaming (in any genre). Off the top of my head, I can think of at least a dozen series to have done that long before Mass Effect.
And about the dying characters, i haven't even managed to get anyone killed so far, no matter my choices. I take it Tali dies if you 1) present the evidence and 2) get her exiled but you'd have to make some pretty wishy-washy choices for that to happen because even exile does not lead directly to no loyalty and if she's not loyal, don't put her in the vent (except take her with your squad). There are only very few characters and choices where doing the loyalty mission does not give the loyal status, which is as i understand it the only way for anyone to die in the "suicide" mission, as Long as Garrus leads the strike teams and the "hold the line" squad and in that squad is at least Zaeed, Grunt, Miranda and Jacob you can't even lose the game. (as in, die) *shrugs*
I completed Tali's loyalty mission and gained her loyalty. Then I sent her to the vent. Then she died while trying to hack a door panel. Maybe it's completely random who dies and who survives. All I know is that Tali is dead in my playthrough.
As for being analytical, maybe you're right. I didn't replay the end level and try out different combinations of teams to see what would happen, nor did I read any strategy guides or forums. I just picked what I thought would be the best teams at the time and went for it. Roleplaying games tend to be more meaningful when you make a choice and stick with it instead of trying every possibility and sticking with whichever result you like best. |
