The Old Republic Cancellation Issues; Trailer

The Star Wars: The Old Republic Forums have posts from players having trouble cancelling their accounts for the MMORPG yesterday on the eve of when the one-month free accounts activated on the game's first day will be billed for their first paid month of service. Massively notes this thread with a workaround, and that customer service suggests customers with such issues contact them by phone. On the other hand, BioWare announces how not cancelling will earn players a "Founder" title, and the website now offers a video showing new features coming to the game in the future. In a separate bit of news related to the game, this post has word from the game's Live Community Coordinator that they have temporarily disabled posting for all community members on the Star Wars: The Old Republic Forums. No explanation for this is offered.

What does that have to do with you having a STD? And why did you have to tell everyone about it?

For all you know. Exactly. Take your own advice, internet random stranger 24524 and stop thinking you know anything about me because I sure don't care about what internet strangers think about me.

As for your rhetoric on my 180, well, take your own advice and stop reading what I write if it bothers you so much. Like I wrote to cutter there's a chance. If you think there's absolutes in economics then allow me to let real life to sip into your brain, there isn't. There's just opinions based on data of which I wrote one. If everyone knew what would happen next in economics nobody would need to estimate, guess, guesstimate anything. Despite all I wrote here all these years they were all my own opinion based upon the data I have. Like professional opinions they are just that. I believe EA has a chance to fail much like I believe the industry is heading for a crash if it doesn't change business models soon. It's still my own opinion based on my data and as such subjective to being fuck wrong completely like any single analyst alive who emitted a professional opinion.

But in the end I simply don't give a fuck to internet trolls like you anyway so keep on doing what you do best.

Yeah, you sure sound like you don't give a fuck.

By that, of course I mean you sound like someone who's importance and "expertise" has been called into question and then raged about it while screaming "I don't give a fuck" thinking that it actually makes them look like they aren't throwing a tantrum.

Last word dude. I will summarize for the less than blessed.

The vocal majority of MMO players are whiney, thrashing, tantrum throwing children. Meanwhile they spend years playing said game. They throw out their experiences from early game as if it is worthy of something.

It is fun, it is a game.

The forums of the game of the moment prove this. A bunch of tantrum throwing children who have no grasp of life and the reality they step into outside their monitor.

Yeah, shame I worked with the gaming industry when I was in S&Ps. So, again, I find your lack of economic knowledge quite disturbing, not to mention your trolling efforts are rather pathetic.

Leave the financial play for those who understand it, you sure don't seem to understand that much at all.

Yep, and the insight you've given us in this thread has been the sort of bland, vague BS that I'd expect from a nobody that's trying to make themselves look more important than they are. McDonald's employees work on Wall Street too. I'd bet I could get the exact same sort of vague "They could go out of business because of this!" doom and gloom commentary from someone there too. For all I know, you're one of them.

And it's funny how "I don't seem to understand it", yet your previous post essentially agreed with exactly what I said but hedged yourself to make it look like you weren't making a 180 from your previous grandiose claims.

I wish I could access a global /played command for WoW and see how much time I played it... I bet it'd be over a year... And I would be proud of that... Or at least 95% of it... I left it running for entire days as an IM client at times, just for guild chat.. But outside of that, if I didn't want to play, I didn't HAVE TO PLAY... So time /played just means time /enjoyed... And what is embarassing about enjoying your time?

-Alamar

Pretty much. I don't see the point in lambasting someone for playing a game they enjoy. I'm sure I have over a year of time played in WoW over multiple characters as well, and I have enjoyed almost every second of it... if I didn't enjoy it I wouldn't play it.

Exactly. You play a video game day by day. You complain to anyone who will listen you get now give me a minute to figure this out... 30/16.

Totally worth it. All that belly aching and crying got you a dollar. Yet you spent how much time playing it. I see a 6 month sub in there. I would bet you have over a year of time played. A year solid, which you are embarrassed to announce Yet you don't sing the praises. You still complain and whine incessantly. Where the hell is your mind.

I'm tired of all the self entitled MMO players who live on a different reality than I do. I agree with tits.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how you've figured out my life's history and personality for the last 7 years from my WoW account history... that's some real ESP shit right there, you should have your own television show.

The only point ("complaint") I made in this thread is that I think it is sad that MMOs are held to a lower standard than other games at release simply because they're MMOs.

But really... Why not cancel right after you activated your account at/near launch? When I did it, I had no problems... I didn't wait until there would be a huge rush of people doing so.
Does it cancel immediately or after your paid time is up?

I would imagine in general they canceled so late so as to give EA the maximum time to fix the issues and give the game a fair shake. If they liked it a lot, they probably wouldn't have canceled.

Your points are good, but I still think it's silly... And of course, it's about personal choice... I pay for massives monthly... never recurring, because I know by the end of the month, I'll either be happily playing, and re-subbing (that takes like 2 minutes) isn't a big bother, but forgetting to cancel and wasting money is annoying : )

And I do realize I'm outside the norm, and outside the expectation... Most games that have 'exit survey's don't know to ask if I'm 'paying month to month'... I used to randomly pick things with WoW... Sometimes it turned out to be balance issues, sometimes vanity items heh...

And lastly, the only game I ever played that closed my account when I cancelled on the month I already paid for, was Finaly Fantasy Online... All others state that your account closes when the 'pre-paid time' is over.

Oh man, can you imagine EA dying?! That makes my epeen hard as virtual-mahogany!

There's a chance that things go bad. It's not a big chance but it's there and it's not that small either. It all depends on how the stock market reacts if, and I mean if, SWTOR fails to accomplish its purposed goals by EA. Nothing may happen, stocks may lower a bit or stocks may take a huge plunge that cannot be turned over quickly enough.

It's not a big chance by far but of all EA risks it made this one is the most likely, up to date, to really cause serious and permanent hurt to EA. It's all on how investors will perceive SWTOR from now on.

You may as well keep imagining. The fact that random internet commenter number 5476 thinks he knows more about EA's finances, or stability than EA does is pretty laughable at best.

As has been said plenty of times, they have more than enough money to afford a complete and utter failure of this product. If they didn't, they wouldn't have chanced it. You don't futz with a multi-billion dollar company and take chances that would leave it insolvent.

EA may not be the nicest publisher on the block, but they didn't get to where they are by being stupid. Will their stock drop if the game crashes? Of course it will. Will the company go out of business? Not a chance in hell.

I find your lack of economic knowledge... disturbing.
