Dead Island DLC Next Month

Deep Silver announces Ryder White, a new DLC pack due next month for Dead Island, Techland's zombie game. Here's word on the pack, which is due on February 1st for Windows PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3:

16th January 2012 - Hampshire, UK/... Deep Silver today announced the upcoming release of a brand new story DLC for the award-winning game Dead Island.

This DLC offers a unique new perspective into the incidents in the main story of Dead Island: This time the player will get the chance to play as Ryder White, the antagonist of the main game; learn more about his motivations and why, from his point of view, he did what he had to do. This fresh take on the Dead Island story shows Ryder White both as a military man and a loving husband.

The DLC stars Ryder White as a newly playable character and offers a single player campaign with several hours of story content with twists and turns that will shed new light on the game’s happenings. Two blueprints and weapons will further expand the already impressive arsenal of Dead Island.

The DLC will be available on February 01, 2012 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC. It will be available for 800 Microsoft points on Xbox LIVE Marketplace or for £7.99 on PSN and Steam.

Has anyone played Nation Red? It looks a bit too twitchy for me, but I would like to know more.

Also, are there any good zombie tower defense games?

Dude... Your timing sucks ; )

Nation Red was free this past weekend on Steam...

I played it, and didn't find it worth $2.50, which is ironic, because I loved (and bought for $20 or so), crimsonland that it was based on... Time's are a changin... : )

As for the game, you basically stand in the center of a map you can't zoom out enough on, get randomly dropped weapons, and shoot zombies coming in from the edges... Pretty basic gameplay... It looks alright, and it has coop (that I didn't try).

And then you play the next map, and it's the same thing...

Also, there are survival modes, and xp/levels (that award perks)... Getting lucky is a HUGE part of the game, as some of the 'right' perks early on will make or break a survival game.

BROKE-ASS SHIT GAME

I cursed out loud when I read that they were releasing DLC for this pile. Fuck these people.

I feel for you, and it's really too bad you (all) had such a bad experience... But my experience was great, and I would recommend this game to many...

I don't much like the melee centric game play, but I guess that's what 'survival FPS' means ; ) My first play through, I played the guy that could throw weapons, and I did that constantly and thought it was great... The second time, a 'pure' melee guy, not as interesting, but I got into it...

Face stomp (rank 2) is OP : )

Well, sadly there's not many offerings on the PC. Mostly L4D/L4D2 and Dead Island when it comes to the mainstream games. I've got the others like Zombie Driver, etc, but those are meh. For flash games, The Last Stand series is good, as well as a flash game called Rebuild, if you like turnbased. I haven't gotten around to Killing Floor as I don't care for the wave defense/purchase weapons mechanic ala CounterStrike. I've heard good things about Urban Dead, but wish it was more like an FPS. My dream game would be Skyrim/Fallout meets zombie apocalypse, where you have a giant land to explore, scavenging for food, weapons, medicine, other survivors, etc. Building barricades, having gameplay choices affect morale (like the old game The Thing) and teammates reactions to you, etc. That would be dope.

Dead Island was great, especially in co-op but this DLC kind of comes too late and doesn't have any real hook to it. Anyone who has played the base game already knows how the story ends, so this DLC doesn't really bring anything new to the table.

I'm a zombiephile so I'm partial to begin with. I thought it was a pretty fun game for what it was. However, the weapons degrading was worse than System Shock 2 and that got old really fast. I also remember reading an article somewhere that the island game world was as big a Just Cause 2. Wish I could find that article again and ask the author what the hell he was smokin' cause I want some.

Wait for a sale.

How is dead island these days? It came out to somewhat poor reviews, but have they fixed most of the bugs? Is it any fun?

If you get this game for any more than $5, you were ripped off.

I know some people have had a good time with it. However the percentage of people who've found they just purchased a broken piece of shit is somewhere around the majority of the audience. Friends and I picked the game up during the steam christmas sale. We played for about 3-4 hours, absolutely never making more than 20 minutes of progress. Each and every one of us crashed out repeatedly. The four of us literally never had more than 5 minutes of stability where all of us were present online together. The game is a broken piece of shit. I've never been so appalled at a release in my life. the shit they got away with in this game, and it's still selling, and they're making DLC for the fucking thing (as opposed to fixing it).

Even if you're one of those who've had a good time with the game, please think of your fellow gamers and the development and consumer situation at large, and just warn everyone away from this piece of shit. The four of us ultimately guilted steam into giving a refund (developers would not answer their support email after a month of trying). This was only after I tried to see what I could get out of the game in single player, and after 10 minutes of playing alone (the game does not crash as much offline), I died and respawned within a locked boss room that I did not have the key for.

I wanted to grab Dead Island during the Winter Sale but at 50% off it was still too steep. If it was £10 I would have grabbed it. I imagine it won't be too many months before there's another sale or price drop.

I picked this game up during the Steam Christmas sale....it's a fun game...almost done with it....I think I'll wait for the dlc to go on sale too though.

I have enough games to play from the Thanksgiving sale and the Christmas sale to keep me busy all year.
