Diablo III in February?

Joystiq has an image of a store display in a Rochester, Minnesota Best Buy that seems to show a February 1 launch date for Diablo III, Blizzard's upcoming action/RPG sequel. They have some follow ups that don't completely confirm or deny this, and word that the end-cap was legit, but has since been removed. Meanwhile, the Best Buy Website now shows a February 1 release date for the game.

Hell if they release D3 next month they can own me for the rest of this year for all I care.

A random storechain with a random date is almost never right (we've seen gamestop frequently do this in the past). Its only official if it comes from blizzard. Sometimes real dates do leak, but this is highly unlikely to be real. It would have to go gold almost immediately for it to make that date in stores. Big worldwide games like this take a minimum of 2 weeks manufacturing time, and thats on a rush. Plus, blizzard has a habit of doing a stress test for past online games such as WoW or D2, where its open to all but has only a small amount of content. This is still in normal beta, hasn't hit stress test yet. All signs point to this being an incorrect date.

While I agree completely, I hate p2p downloaders, and that it's default is on, but they are hardly being "sneaky".

WoW and SC2 are the same way, which means 10's of millions of people are fully aware of how the Blizzard uses a p2p downloader that is defaulted to on. It's only sharing while you are downloading.

It's going to be really interesting to see the blowback from the community especially regarding forced online and real money profiteering decisions. My guess/feel is they will easily lose 20% of their potential sales, had this been a normal sequel instead of an obvious profiteering schemes beyond game making.
No, it will sell far more than d2, because its made by blizzard. Anything by blizzard no matter how money sucking is an instant hit. They did some decisions in SC2 (like no LAN, etc) and it still was a mega hit. Remember how many people bought the premium mounts in WoW?

Take a look at the CoD series, it gets more and more popular each iteration, despite the latest MW3 being almost an exact copy of the previous, and many of the maps reused. And then people pay through the nose for map packs that are mostly reused from past iterations too.

Well part of that is the fact that the beta is locked into normal difficulty. Once the harder difficulties open up, it will get much more difficulty all around. I've maxed out all chars in the beta (and gotten all beta achivements), and after a certain point, its all way too easy for many classes. Some classes are still difficult, but I think thats because their better abilities unlock on levels above the cap in the beta (at least they'd better, else some classes are going to suck).

Yeah I do too, as I just don't picture myself buying any games not on Steam for the near future. I've passed on BF3 because of it, and most likely I'll pass on D3 as well.

I'm sorry, where did I say you couldn't turn it off? My complaint was that it maxes out my upstream by DEFAULT. Oh, and when I disabled P2P my download speed dropped to 4kb/s and didn't recover. Fucking brilliant! I can get raped or wait 3yrs for my download to complete. Oh, joy! I got around it by using Netlimiter to block the upload, while maintaining my download speed.

They make a shit-ton of money and then avoid paying bandwidth costs by sneaking in P2P into the download. And YES it is sneaking when they don't offer you an option when installing to disable it, only when it is already running. Meanwhile, Valve offers unlimited downloads and NEVER uses your bandwidth for other users. Blizzard is being deliberately cheap. It is malware - a piece of software that does something you did not give it permission to do and that adversely affects you.

It's this sort of shit that people hate about modern capitalism. They do sneaky bullshit like this to increase their profit margin. Yet they wouldn't be happy if I hijacked THEIR bandwidth for my own purposes. Oh no, I'd have the police at my door. Capitalism. Great.

I got around to doing another playthrough of the D3 beta last night. There has been a couple patches since the first time. Gameplay was greatly improved. More monsters, less enviro clickys, my toon didnt feel over powered, I couldnt just charge into the middle of everything and overall I really enjoyed it compared to the first time playing.

Enemies coming out of walls and stuff need to be greater in number and animations faster. They are still just easy targets as it is now.

First playthrough was a Wizard, 2nd playthrough was a Demon Hunter. Will try another class today.

Spot on.

And unless they announce gold tomorrow than this date isn't correct. Doesn't matter anyway as I won't be buying it. I can only hope enough other people feel the same way to make Blizzard realize they're wrong on this just like RealID. This sort of corporate greed needs to be kept in check.

It still uses it. Just less of it, it has and continues to be unoptimized.

Sadly all these great releases coming out, and I'm going to be in the middle of no-where-asshole of Canada when they come out on a 1.5kbit/down connection, where the nearest store will be 15 hours away.

I agree I HATE their torrent style downloader. It's always slower than crap. Normally I download at ~2.3 MB/sec (20Mb cable) but I'm doing good to get 1Mb (notice that's mega BIT) or less on Blizzard's crap.

On the plus side, the DIII beta was awesome and so I'll probably grab it. Not sure whether that will be for release or if I'll wait for a discount. Tropico 4 is keeping me occupied at the moment and I haven't even started on Shogun 2 yet.

Afi can see, it's mostly based on them creating a international revenue system without any governmental oversite. Actually at this point it seems more like a money laundering scheme. Don't recall atm, but seems like blizzscam is getting at least 5% on each real money sale.
