id consider that a very naive statement

A random storechain with a random date is almost never right (we've seen gamestop frequently do this in the past).

I doubt that will be possible. All play, even single-player, will need to be constantly authenticated online. Blizzard says it's so that they can prevent cheating and allow single player items to carry over to the online game. But obviously the point is to prevent piracy and the the rest is just a justification for always online DRM.

Sign up on the official d3 facebook page for the beta, thats how I got in. Note that its NOT necessary to have a facebook account to do so, they have alternative entry instructions there. I signed up and a couple weeks later I was in (this was back in november). I think they've been increasing the beta signup waves significantly.
ALSO, make sure in your battle.net profile you've opted into beta's such as D3, and make sure to run the hardware thingy.

Instead of the monthly fee, they are raking in a percentage off the top for all real money auction house transactions.
And yes, it will be annoying not to be able to play when they do battle.net maintenance.

The fact that you decide to post your computer specs for strangers to see sheds light on your personality
Yakubs wrote on Jan 8, 2012, 19:36:That is indeed the purpose of using bold text, which I use on many occasions to summarise my posts.
...as does your tendency to end your posts with a stand-alone sentence that you feel the need to put in bold. You want attention.

In fact all your posts have been very derisive, with no serious attempt to address the subjects at hand; I think that says something about your personality.
Since I'm responding to your reactionary rants, I guess you've won.

To the people who got in the beta and played through it once or twice, I hate you. I tried my damndest to get into that beta, and would have played that game until it cried.

Diablo 3 just legitimizes the Ubisoft form of DRM. I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzard found a way to charge a monthly fee at some point too. Won't it be fun when you can't play your single player game because of "server maintenance" or some other bs?

And what the fuck do my computer specs have to do with anything?
Yakubs wrote on Jan 8, 2012, 18:53:For starters, it's not a "voluntary" download - it's required in order to play the game. Using the game is "voluntary", downloading an update isn't. And the issue about P2P being enabled by default isn't that they don't provide an option to disable it but that it is hidden from the user; further, it's to save them money and increase their profit margin. The whole point is that a lot of users don't know about it, hence the "sleazebags" comments.
It's very distressing, isn't it. I hate how I voluntarily start a download and voluntarily leave an option on to participate in peer-to-peer and then it uses up my bandwidth! Those Blizzard guys really are such sleazebags.
Yakubs wrote on Jan 8, 2012, 18:53:Hang on, wasn't that the point I was making? Anybody that knows about it can disable it. My problem was that I hadn't used any Blizzard software for years and had forgotten that P2P was enabled by default, which meant my bandwidth was being exploited and the performance of my internet connection tanked - only when I thought to check Netlimiter did I see what was going on. And what the fuck do my computer specs have to do with anything? Is it my fault you game on a laptop with Intel integrated graphics? Just because I managed to spot Blizzard's shitty, sleazy business practices doesn't mean that the situation is somehow acceptable. My problem was that I had to use third party software in order to get acceptable download speeds from Blizzard and to prevent my internet connection from grinding to a halt. But what if someone has an internet connection with bandwidth caps and overage fees? They'll end up with a surprising bill at the end of the months. Steam has NONE of those issues, hence why I made the comparison.
Maybe if you came at it from the angle of Blizzard taking advantage of unsuspecting casuals, you'd have SOME kind of leg to stand on. But given the fact that you self-diagnosed the problem with your bandwidth and (for some bizarre reason) you list your computer specs in your signature, it's hard for me to feel sorry for you.
Krovven wrote on Jan 8, 2012, 18:57:Well I'm on teksavvy, I pay for 25/1, but I regularly get anywhere from 51/1 to 54/1 without speedboost. So yeah, that's pretty normal. It's the caps that suck, especially if you're stuck on incumbent networks. Rogers, Bell are still sucking people with 60-100gb, shaw well 100-300(depending on the area, I know krovven is getting what he's getting my sister only get 60gb in her area of alberta though), and teksavvy, electrobox and a few others are giving 300 to unlimited up here now.
Welcome to 2012, glad you could join us. I get 6 MB/sec from Steam.

I don't understand your sarcasm, because that's exactly the point I'm making. When enabled - which it is by default - the upload speed kills my internet connection, making even browsing the web slow down. All because they want to save bandwidth costs to increase their profit margin. Sleazebags.

Hell if they release D3 next month they can own me for the rest of this year for all I care.
Thank you for making the world a worse place to be. You're a real human bring.
Drama queen much? it's not that serious, every time blizzard news pops up a few of you god damned picket sign guys spew the same ole rhetoric because you all are too lazy to check your options and disable certain 'features' or just want to stir up sh!t for the sake of doing so.
Give it a freaking rest, and put your energy elsewhere.
