Good to know. I'll keep watching for any more fixes before I dive in.

Man pays $16,000 for virtual sword…

So one developer transferred funds from his bank account to another developer's bank account, and got a virtual item in return... how is this news worthy?

The wonderful thing about abstaining from buying games until several weeks or months afteer release is that I don't have to deal with the epic launch problems many games have. In another couple of weeks I'll be playing actual working and feature-complete versions of Stronghold 3 and SotS 2, while likely having paid considerably less than their launch prices. I am currently making my way through a wonderfully NON- broken Dead Island right now, with a totally-works-on-Win7 64 bit 'Arkham City" up next.

Not disputing your argument, as I agree, but I picked up dead island about a week after launch for a NON- broken set of play troughs.

This modified the system? I didn't know that, I thought it was game directly causing the bug.

I obviously don't know, but my best guess would be that this is a bug with both. The game's code calls some system code in an incorrect manner and the system doesn't trap this unexpected case, resulting in unpredictable behaviour. Assuming it is supposed to be sandboxed, the game shouldn't be able to do this no matter how badly it calls the system code.

But if a game can corrupt the internal system files of the PS3 we are talking about something that it should not be able to do, even if it were coded to do that. Isn't the whole point of hardened systems like the PS3 that a game can not escalate its access outside of the sandbox with the exception of very specific access to the HD for storage and game saves?

To me this sounds like a PS3 bug and not a game bug... game bugs are when a game crashes. When a game corrupts the OS, then the OS has a bug, and not (just) the game

When the retail version of Darklands did the same thing, they called it a bug. They patched it too, though getting a patch pre-internet was obviously a bigger pain.

Huh? I'm sorry, I was thinking about cake.

This is a PS3 OS bug (though I am not sure what OS that is..)

And even better, It makes 0 difference what game causes this. This issue is a OS issue on the PS3, because system file corruption is not even possible unless someone at Sony did something extremely brain dead with how the OS works.

Whether its messy coding at Bethesda or not does not matter either. Given that they coded and compiled this in the PS3 SDK any behavior that can cause system corruption should be documented and secured against.

by Sony, that is.

It's not a game play bug, but it still makes Skyrim one of "5 Video Games With the Worst Bugs of 2011". Save game bugs are about the worst bugs a game can have, short of actually affecting the system or hardware which shouldn't be possible.

FWIW, I've found Skyrim on my PC to be the most stable Elderscrolls/FO3 game yet.

Did you read the bug, or just the title that said "Skyrim"? It's a very serious bug that can corrupt the PS3 system files. /shoot fanboy
