Thankfully they preserved that, you can do it in BF3 I've road killed people with the tanks, planes and even a chopper once by accident. It's not difficult to do with the joystick if you're careful about your surroundings. The map design in BF3 definitely lessens the number of opportunities you have to try though. |

I supposed with more detailed maps featuring more buildings, trees, and elevations changes that'll be gone forever. Yeah I do miss all of that wonky first gen physics stuff in the early BF games. It was neat proning on the wings of a bomber and zipping around. |

The best thing about WW2 as an era for videogames is that there is no goddamned technology to fark things up. No guided shells/missiles, no infrared/thermal vision, no autoshotguns, no LMGs with sniper scopes and silencers(or that you can even fire from the hip), etc. Makes for a funner experience. I'd personally love to replay something like the original MoH with the Frostbite engine
And 2142 had shit for vehicles The original and the best. Been day-dreaming about a few of the old maps. Really need to play BF1942 again, too much BF2 FH2! |

2142 is def my fave to date and I too really like Titan maps.
Up until BF3 I still fired up 2142 every so often. Doorman is God always had a couple good servers on the go. That may have changed with BF3's launch however.
VOIP is a mixed bag IMHO. As you say its' great for tactics, but as others have pointed out there's no shortage of assholes out there trying to blow your speakers or just being annoying.
In BF3 I do sometimes miss the commander and at times find myself looking for a supply crate, but I also recall many bad commanders in BF2/2142 and endless mutiny votes. With BF3 I have been in pub squads where the squad leader was bright enough to mark objectives; hopefully it'll catch on.

the way they said BF3 would have enhanced geometry destruction above and beyond BC2 and then it comes out and actually has way less... thats why i still havent bought it
but id rather play 2143 anyways, so id probly let it slide on that, unless its just some bullshit DLC ripoff |

BF3 is an extension of BFBC2 - and it sold huge. Why would they change? So earlier you bitch that you won't be buying anymore BF because their direction is consoles and now that BF3 is just an extension of BFBC2
And you play Modern Warfare 3.
Are you really that fucking stupid? |

BF2143 is rinse/repeat that same shit. |

| I'm expecting this to be a $15 expansion for BF3 in the same exact way that Bad Company 2 got the Vietnam update. I'll be happily surprised if it retains Titan mode as that was the best part of 2142, and I'll be even more happy if it is a complete standalone game with eight to twelve maps. I loved tearing around maps in the hover-tank and rocket helicopters. Still bummed that BF1943 never made it to PCs and will be quite upset if 2143 is console only as well. |

The closet thing to a commander roll is using the MAV to id targets.
The VOIP feature would be nice but I cringe at the thought of needing to mute people with open mikes playing rap music in the background. They could just have an option to disable all voice chat though, it would be such a simple thing. I don't really understand their continued resistance against it, that per-seat licensing for Sonar must be incredible expensive or something. |

BF3's lack of the OPTION of a commander and at a minimum in game voice chat is probably the single biggest fuck up that DICE/EA could have done with this game. There was no valid excuse to exclude in game VOIP, and the commander mode worked fine in BF2. Why take away something that worked so well IF you wanted it?
I can see removing control of the submarines, the battleships, because those didn't work at all and didn't seem as if it could be "fixed" and applied to the game.
Anyways, the commander mode also worked tremendously for those that played BF2 as clan vs. clan or that played the game 3-4 years later after all the Modern Warfare dopes quit after 3-6 weeks/months.
Anyways, BF3 as it stands now is a beautifully fun and horribly frustrating game due to the lack of any ability to coordinate. I can recall BF2 games where the tide of the battle was turned by someone that knew what they were doing slipping into the Commander seat with squads that would listen. It was those moments that I remember most in BF2.
IF I ever met someone from Dice that worked on BF3 at say the LV gaming convention, I will tell them within 1 inch of their face about what an utter fuck up of a company they are to exclude it. Completely unjustifiable!

I can see this coming out as a DLC expansion, hopefully it's new content and not just a redo of older maps from 2142. I don't want to play wake island on 2143 etc.
I could also imagine DICE making a 1944 eastern Europe WWII DLC pack.
Full games are out of the question though, DICE have said they're not into taking huge risks on games. |
