CD Project vs. File-Sharers Follow-up

Eurogamer has a statement from CD Projekt to the report that they are sending letters to those accused of pirating The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. While restating their strong feelings about not using DRM, they clarify that this does not mean they are okay with their game being stolen:

However, that shouldn't be confused with us giving a green light to piracy. We will never approve of it, since it doesn't only affect us but has a negative impact on the whole game industry.

We've seen some of the concern online about our efforts to thwart piracy, and we can assure you that we only take legal actions against users who we are 100 per cent sure have downloaded our game illegally.

wow...seriously? Apples and oranges. Now you are reaching.

In English, the word "steal" does not have to be attached to a physical item. Concepts, ideas, rights, and more can all be properly addressed as stolen in a variety of circumstances.

1. To take (the property of another) without right or permission.
2. To present or use (someone else's words or ideas) as one's own.
3. To get or take secretly or artfully: steal a look at a diary; steal the puck from an opponent.
4. To give or enjoy (a kiss) that is unexpected or unnoticed.
5. To draw attention unexpectedly in (an entertainment), especially by being the outstanding performer: The magician's assistant stole the show with her comic antics.
6. Baseball To advance safely to (another base) during the delivery of a pitch, without the aid of a base hit, walk, passed ball, or wild pitch.

How in the hell is "steal" not the appropriate word to describe pirating software? You have their software, you didn't pay for it. Why? Because you downloaded it without going through the purchasing process. If I walk into Gamestop, take a game, and go home without paying for it..did I not steal it? How is it any different? What, because you don't have a box and a disc? Bullshit, and you know it.
