No ad is a "good" ad, sorry. I don't want to visit BN (just using it as an example, not calling Blue out) and get bombarded with six ads in six different places THAT ARE ALL THE SAME AD. Especially the Flash animated ones that take fucking forever to load. Further, I don't want to visit BN and have some yuppie fucking ad trying to sell me a Prius. Not only will I never buy a Toyota, it has nothing to do with the content of the site itself.

I understand there are costs involved with running a website. Blue has asked before that, in place of ads, would people be willing to pay subs. Yes, yes I would. If the difference between reading BN every day and never seeing BN again is $5/month, I'll gladly pay that 5 bucks a month. That's $70 a year which means that, with tax included, it's one less console shovel-ware crapfest that I'll purchase.

Now that they've made their decision public, I'll make sure to spread how to turn it off to as many friends as possible via as many outlets as possible.

Hmm, I already whitelist Bluesnews and a few other sites. My old host file still chops out quite a bit, that approach still seems faster and safer but more to the point most of the entries I no longer remember what they're for, so I wouldn't want to remove them.

I'd expect to be leaving this enabled, though they've got hard work ahead because it's only going to require a couple of bad eggs to sneak through before it gets disabled and forgotten about.

People downloaded the software to block ads, not have the developer decide which ads were appropriate to whitelist. He's supposedly taking money to fill his whitelist so it's not like this is going to make revenue opportunities better for regular website owners. Blah blah use another addon blah which is exactly what people will do.

It's his addon and he can do what he wants but it's pretty difficult to put this in a positive light.

I like this idea, though I'm not exactly thrilled at their idea of the default being "on", rather than off. Yes, most users won't switch it on otherwise, but now they're running the risk that most users will think that Adblock plus is broken.

Their criteria for acceptable ads are good. Especially the "only one script max." Half the time a webpage won't load for me (or won't load in a reasonable amount of time), it's because either fucking facebook's or fucking twitter's shitty-ass adserver isn't responding. (Them, or fucking Google Analytics.)

Remember those golden days when you'd click on a page on a website, and that page was the only thing that actually loaded? Now click on a page and just check your status bar. It's getting data from like 14 different URLs.

Bah.
