GSC Game World Follow-up

GSC Game World tweets the promised statement about their uncertain future, which seems no less uncertain following their comment, which reads: "We will do our best to continue. However, at this moment, nothing is certain." A subsequent tweet is that much more grim: "Our website will continue, with the forum & tech support. The shop will continue until the nearest planned items sell out. (uploaded now)."

The statement about the website just means that there will still be a place for fans of existing products, but they basically just said (without actually saying it) that they won't be making any more games. I don't see how these official statements could be interpreted any other way. I mean, if you don't see that for what it is, then you're probably the kind of person who wouldn't realize your girlfriend is breaking up with you when she says something like, "I think we should see other people."

GSC Game World might still exist on paper after this, but for all practical purposes, it seems very clear to me that they're done. The fact that GSC made no effort whatsoever to deny the rumors of their closing says as much. No real need to read between the lines here.

It's really sad. The Stalker games, for me personally, rank among the best gaming experiences of my 25+ years of PC gaming and I was really looking forward to Stalker 2. The only hope now is that a stronger developer might want to purchase the rights to the Stalker series and continue with it. But, on the flip side, my fear is that some other developer won't give it the proper look & feel that has made the series great.

Well that certainly clears this whole thing up. NOT.

Guess we wanted a statement and got one....even if it resolves nothing.

So... I'm guessing they've lost funding and while they're not technically closing, that's the inevitable result of lacking money.

I don't think the second tweet sounds any more grim. I took it to mean the website(s) will still be up for a while regardless of whether they, as a studio, can "continue." Somebody probably asked about that.
