MW3 Beats Avatar to $1B

Activision Publishing announces an impressive sales milestone for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, saying the military shooter sequel has surpassed USD $1 billion in sales in a mere 16 days, eclipsing a record for fastest run to a billion set by James Cameron's Avatar. "Call of Duty has become that rare entertainment franchise that transcends its own genre. Core gamers love it, as our stellar reviews show. But every year, new people are drawn into Call of Duty," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. "And while the franchise continues to set records, our fans still seem to want more, demonstrated by our record setting start on Call of Duty Elite. We are committed to helping everyone connect, compete and improve their game, Call of Duty style."

Oh god, arguing with you is like hitting your face into a brick wall. I listed several console games and one PC game I didn't realize did it. And yes, I'm limiting it to FPS games because we're talking about an FPS game. Sure, the scrabble app on my phone has stats, but does that compare in any way, shape or form to the competitive stats in UT?

You'd figure that out if you stopped and considered the argument instead of just trying to pick a fight with me. "Facebook bubble?" Not sure how often your parents dropped you on your head, but no one mentioned Facebook and I'd wager plenty of Zynga games have stats. But they aren't competitive shooters so no one cares in this argument.

Nothing you are saying is relevant or factual.

They at one point were charging for it and taking pre-orders on it. I suppose it's nice they backtracked and decided to make Elite free on PC, but too bad they don't give a shit about PC users enough to have it ready at launch and they are stripping it down to bare bones in the meantime.

And because it will have some reduced functionality, it will be free for everyone.

And no, you can't make a list of games with stats. What FPS game has shipped with stats built in? UT, BF, Halo 3, MW3... I'm drawing a blank beyond this.

So you've already listed several games more than the one (UT) you said that it hasn't been done since. Your original comment was not factual and you got called on it, a single example was all that was needed to prove you wrong, now you've proven yourself wrong with more. And there are even more. The world of games does not exist solely of UT, BF and CoD games, not to mention...do you really think player stats are limited to shooters? You'd figure that out if you stepped out of your Facebook bubble.

You can't have a negative FOV? When I'm done smashing your skull in and your eyeballs are dangling in front of your ass can you say that again plz? BWWAAAAAAHAHAHA

I offered 1 current game as an example as it's the most relevant, and already stated why, twice. But for the dense people here, I'll say it for a third time. Battlelog came out 2 weeks before MW3 and provides the same (better) service for free that Activision hasn't even made available for PC users and is going to charge them for it when they do.

I could make a list of games with stats for you, but it doesn't matter, and it's a waste of my time to even bother when dealing with you. The fact that you make broad general incorrect statements as if they are fact without doing any research is why people think you are an idiot, particularly as of late. As a lawyer, do you go into a courtroom and argue your case by just throwing random bullshit out there with no basis of fact? I pity anyone that hires you.

Alright, fine, see I admit I did not know about Battlelog, but I already mentioned in my first post here that Activision is NOT charging for Elite on the PC. Not sure how you're throwing stones here when you can't even get that right:
http://www.bluesnews.com/s/127221/pc-call-of-duty-elite-free-delayed

I also said Elite isn't terribly good, but for something free it's still worthwhile for a stats nerd. All the stats, for the record, are also free on consoles, but you're probably convinced otherwise.

And no, you can't make a list of games with stats. What FPS game has shipped with stats built in? UT, BF, Halo 3, MW3... I'm drawing a blank beyond this.

Yet you accuse me of throwing out random bullshit. I pity anyone that spends any time within earshot of you. And while I am an attorney I do not work as one.

edit - wait, Battlelog debuted with BF3? It wasn't in the older ones? Holy crap you're this bent out of shape over something appearing a mere 2 weeks before something else? Wow. That's amazing. Given how angry you are I figured it must have been around for years. Now I'm just assuming you're a fanboy. I dislike DICE games due to the feel, and I enjoy MW3, warts and all, for its one-hit kill playstyle and massive community, but I would never go apeshit like you are over someone enjoying one over the other or someone missing something by 2 weeks.

Please, elaborate. Thus far your contributions to why I'm an idiot are:
1) I dislike the feel of DICE's engine. Infantry feels like running in molasses to me.
2) As I dislike DICE games I did not remember Battlelog, but you've acted like "sooooooo many games" since UT have had included stats programs, yet all you've offered are DICE games. Come on, if I'm such an idiot for not knowing more, elaborate.

Your arguments are terrible.

You've already made my point for me. This is not about personal opinion but that's what you want to argue. You just continue to prove how dense and clueless you really are.

I've been kinda wondering the same thing, even most of my friends who were really into the CoD series didn't buy MW3. I guess maybe its been passed onto the newer generation again? I checked my friends lists XBL and Steam the other day, no one playing it or had in recent history. I guess it could just be the sample size but it seems weird because a few of them are diehards.
I'm just as puzzled as you guys. This should be a good lesson for all of us (or me at least). Just when I think I'm "tapped" in to the industry this would go to show that the small sample I see isn't the big picture after all. Common sense, I know, but it's just a good example. Verno's gotta be right, it has to be a younger generation thing.

I don't have a large friends list on XBL, but the only games anyone on it is playing are MW3 and Skyrim.
And, shockingly, the community has been mostly decent. Mostly. Again, this may be a function of playing hardcore over regular, it may cater to somewhat more mature people. The only thing people seem to get worked up over is camping.

What amazes me is that I've spent the past year living in a shitty small midwestern city, and almost everyone I play against is in the same city. A very, very sizeable chunk have the city name in their gamertag, or the area code as their clan tag. Last night we had a full 6 on 6 game with every single person being from the city.

Which means matchmaking is probably doing a good job, and means the community is large enough that it can regularly stick you with people with the same ISP.

Is it as good as picking your own server? No. But the only time I've had connection issues have been coming from my own side. When the community is this huge that becomes far less of a problem. What you lose, console-wise, is just having a server that becomes similar to Cheers for you.

Der!

When did I say they play the same? Or am I just your standard for "dense?" Says a lot about you, though.

MW3 feels closest to Rainbow Six than any other game to me. Why? Because I only play hardcore mode. If you get shot in the foot you die, just like Rainbow Six. You need to be patient and make every shot count, just like Rainbow Six.
No other multiplayer game out there has a similar feel.

What gameplay mechanics are you referring to? The BF series has drastically changed since its inception. Just because there are still vehicles doesn't mean everything plays the same. The Call of Duty series on the other hand has changed little since Modern Warfare 1 which itself was an innovation after years of small iterations on the base.

Has anyone here who has criticised MW3 (even if just by saying it's not a good game) actually played it?

I have played it a little bit. As with any CoD game I'll eventually get it at a discount and will never pay $15 for the DLC, particularly the reselling of the same maps. People blasted Valve for remaking the same maps as DLC with CSS and TF2. Difference is with Valve they were free, with Activision you get milked for every cent.

Point being, I've owned all of the CoD's except 3 which was console only, and MW2 which I downloaded first and it was crap. World At War being the last one I'll ever pay full price for. Black Ops was pretty good, but still more of the same rehash as all the others before it.

People can legitimately have severe issues with the CoD series and gameplay, whether they've played the first or the last. They literally are all the same.
