| Apparently I am going to have to try out Metro 2033 one of these days. I've held off on it since I wasn't sure my OC'd E6400 and GTS250 could handle running that game. |

I'd guess there's a lot of meetings going on with directors, maybe shareholders and creditors etc, many countries' laws can be quite specific in the procedure including when announcements can be made. And there might be various options still on the table. |

It just depends on who gets it. I'm not being funny but the STALKER series was never desperately original. The gameplay was what defined them, yet there were plenty of bugs and the "sudden anomaly death" really wasn't a good game mechanic. I'd be just as happy to see the developers tackle a new IP and make a game that's a lot more focused. I never found the huge game world to really add much - I'd rather it were half the size but featured twice as much content.
Don't get me wrong, I love the STALKER games. But as I've pointed out before, Metro 2033 was a spin-off from GSC-GW and it was a lot more focused and polished, with a strong narrative. Rather than rehashing the same game over-and-over I'd love to see the developers move on to new projects and build upon the elements that made the STALKER series so memorable. And they need better management, as the original game took 6yrs and was hugely buggy; the next few games were basically the same, with a few graphical / gameplay features bolted on. |

Sounds like a "Yes we're shutting down" to me. Otherwise they'd be denying it left and right.
Maybe someone else will get the Stalker license and make more games with it. Just because the studio shuts down doesn't mean the game can't live on. It just depends on who gets it..
Hopefully not EA.
Sorry for the folks at that developer though. Crap time to shut down - right before Christmas. |
