Did anyone like Enterprise's simple space combat parts in 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rights adventure games? I enjoyed it on my 286 as a teenager. |

I played the beta a while back and felt hugely disappointed, as the media and narratives they were putting out were very impressive and faithful to the franchise. I'll definitely give it a go when it goes F2P.
As for combat in Star Trek, in my mind some of the best episodes in the entire franchise were in DS9 when they were battling the dominion or in TNG First Contact when they battled the borg. I absolutely agree that diplomacy is absolutely critical as well, as TNG amply demonstrated. There no harm in leaning slightly more towards combat, though I can't say I was impressed with the overall direction. |

I'll admit that whilst some of the newer episodic style quests were much better the overall design of the game is too limited. They should have made exploration, diplomacy, science, etc. the priority from the start. Combat is such a minor part of Star Trek. True, however some of the best Star Trek episodes are combat centric. From the Original Series "Balance of Terror' (which was based on the movie "The Enemy Below" where the commanders of each side gain respect for their opponent's enginuity), and "Doomsday Machine", come to mind.
That said... what turned me off to STO was the 3rd Person Ship Combat... if "everyone is a Captain"... they should have made it more like Bridge Commander, and have the space combat more like a "Bridge Simulation", rather than an arcade shooter.
Oh well... a definite missed opportunity, IMO. |

Oh, wait. No it didn't. Yeah because soooo many people are playing that game right?

I'll play STO again when it goes F2P.
It wasn't really the Star Trek game I wanted, but it was still pretty fun for what it was.
I mean, I liked it okay. I just didn't think it was worth a monthly fee. |

That's usually true of a lot of really good games. They'd be even more spectacular if they were based on a popular licensed property. |
