| I don't and won't like the (lack of a) loadout system. The physics work nicely enough, the bullet guns are annoying, the vehicles seem fine (I'm not a big Tribes+vehicles person, I prefer soaring through the air without assistance). It's in no way a bad game, and it's already miles beyond Global Agenda. I'll reserve judgement until it's at a release state. |

I really don't find it anywhere near as enjoyable as Tribes 2. In T2 the vehicles worked really well, as the ones with large capacities encouraged teamwork; in Ascend vehicles are purchased with 'credits', which require numerous kills to achieve. I never see vehicles being used in a meaningful way and usually only ever the bike, which is cheap. And the only two builds you have unlocked are medium armour, killing the light/medium/heavy balance of the previous games. I don't like having to grind or purchase stuff that should be unlocked to start with. BRINK did the same.
I'd much rather pay for a game than have to grind or spend money unlocking all the items, which always work out as dramatically more than simply buying the game outright would. I'd MUCH prefer that they simply had a "game" unlock pack, which costs the price of a regular game and includes all the unlocks; that way those that want to play for free with restrictions can, while those that would have bought the game anyway are free to do so. Team Fortress 2 is free and the unlocks never feel like they're restricting you - they always feel like optional extras.
It's fun but it's not what I wanted from a new Tribes game. |

The only mode I despise is Rabbit. I was playing against some badass skiers that would leave me in the dust everytime they got the flag. The couple times I got the flag, I was dead within 15 seconds, it was frustrating to say the least
CTF and TDM are the funk though, <3 the Rangers grenade launcher |

Silvanus I'll take one. I applied for beta and no luck.
I got beta invites galore years back, I even submit bug reports and all but this last year... nothing, nada!
So if you're keen to share I'd love it =)

| Whether you consider it a true Tribes successor or not, this thing is a lot of fun. It does seem a bit stripped down compared to T2 but its still early so I'm hoping for the best. Hell, even some of the TribalWar.com sociopaths are liking it as well. Definitely a better effort than Legions. |

The engine itself is technically good, but the environments need a little work. Right now they're just a little bland, but the models, animations, and textures are all decent.
As for the game itself it's fun as hell, definitely worthy of the "Tribes" title. Hell, it's free, there's no reason not to try it. |

the gfx basically suck.. the engine is poorly optimized for LOD (level of detail), with constant texture and terrain morphing, popin and popout and so forth
with that said, i still play almost everyday.. usually numerous matches
the new TDM is pretty hot btw |

| I was underwhelmed by the graphics. Tribes 2 was really cutting edge at the time but Ascend just doesn't have the same magic. I've got to play it some more but I'm having much more fun with Diablo III. |

That's the one thing that made me really apprehensive about this. I've got a beta invite but with so many other titles out right now, no time to play it Definitely try it out especially if you're already in the beta. They're not going to move away from pre-set loadouts, but significant changes during the beta have shown they're more than willing to experiment with the business model. They've significantly lowered the Token cost for extra loadouts so you don't need to play quite as long to unlock them, they permanently cut the cost in half for a bunch of others, and will probably continue moving towards the League of Legends model where they rotate through offering a number to play for free temporarily as a way to try them out before buying them. |

I have to say Tribes: Ascend has impressed me as much as BF3 disappointed me. I don't think they have everything just right but the game already has a good feel to it. It'll be interesting to see what happens once the game launches and all the free players come in. Soldiers and Rangers do not a balanced team make. Even so I have gotten into more games where people are getting the whole team concept down and when it all works together it is wonderfully fun. |

I was so addicted to Battlefield 3 until I got into the Tribes beta last week, I haven't touched BF3 since then. The game has a good feel, just how Tribes/T2 felt. Like how Linksil said, it sucks not having the freedom to customize the classes but the premade options are pretty good. I might just pay the monies and get that VIP booster pack as well, it's just that much fun.
BTW, as I didn't read it and just hit ACCEPT, what does the NDA allow us to speak about. Can we make general comments about the game without going into much detail or what. |
