Vietnamese Shooter 7554 Announced

Vietnamese developer Emobi Games announces 7554, a single-player, military first-person shooter set in 1954 during the conclusion of the French Indochina War. The game is expected in February 2012, and we have a few screenshots and the following details:

Emobi Games is proud to announce 7554. 7554 is the first major video game developed by Vietnamese company and made available in North America. 7554 is currently set for a February 2012 release date in North American and will be available exclusively for PC for $12.00 USD. The title of the game, 7554 (7 May 1954) represents is the day the French army in Dien Bien Phu, Vietnam surrendered to the Vietnam People’s Army thereby withdrawing occupation of all Indochinese colonies.

“There has never been a video game of this size and scope from Vietnam and that fact alone gives us a lot of national pride. It is our privilege and our challenge to create a first person shooter that gamers will enjoy playing. And though 7554 is based on historical events, it is not an attempt to recreate the past, but rather it is a vehicle meant for entertainment,” said Nguyen Tuan Huy, Director of Emobi Games.

7554 is a first person shooter set against the historical backdrop of the climatic conclusion to the first Indochina War between the Vietnam People’s Army revolutionaries and the oppressing French army. The single player campaign puts gamers on the front line of a colonial independence movement locked in battle against a technologically more advanced modern Western occupier.

Players will experience the colonial movement’s growth from insurgent guerrilla band to a conventional army using Nvidia’s PhysX engine and Havok’s Vision Engine 8. 7554 will be release on December 16, 2011 in Vietnam and in February 2012 in North America.

Would you like to play a Revolutionary War shooter? Rate of fire expressed in rounds per hour! Woo!

There was such a mod for Half-Life and it was actually pretty entertaining.

I loved that mod. Particularly fun/funny if you found a populated server and people actually advanced in a line

LOL that's hilarious hahaha

Loved that game, they actually made a Source version as well that was pretty damn good if you don't mind getting in musket/sniper battles.

There's probably a hundred interesting wars never covered in videogames; the italian campaign of WW2 (including the occupation)

Not fully dedicated to it but:

Actually took me a bit to find because I remember there being an Italian campaign but didn't realize it was only in a console version. I believe a demo of it was playing all day during my GameStop years.

There's just not a whole lot of interesting places to go with shooting if you're staying on Earth and out of the future.
There's probably a hundred interesting wars never covered in videogames; the italian campaign of WW2 (including the occupation), the various uprisings against the soviets, the south american border conflicts, the various Bush Wars. Most of these do not have americans as the protagonists though, except some american mercenaries in the Bush Wars.

I was taking the piss - The French are not to be fucked with and are a super power.

Nothing wrong with surrendering if its the right thing to do ... they have been in many wars are are still around.

Actually France has quite the history of surrendering.

Thanks for the link! It was an enjoyable read. My 2 favorite parts:

- French Revolution
- Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French.
AND

Or, better still, the quote from last week's Wall Street Journal: "They're there when they need you."

A game in which the French surrender? WTF And I thought CoD:MW was unrealistic. This just would never happen.

ever.

I'm only buying it if there is a level in which you jump a shark on a motorbike.

Er, 30 seconds on Wikipedia tells me the French DID surrender on May 7th, 1954, at the end of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. Only, the French considered it a "ceasefire" because they didn't wave a white flag when they were overwhelmed and stopped fighting. They were still defeated, it was still the end of the war.

I'm pretty sure Kosuma was being sarcastic. The French are known for surrendering throughout history, which is why everyone mocks them as such.

It's because of WW2, where they surrendered quite quickly, which surprised everyone, but that's what happens when you get caught with your pants down. They don't have a record of surrendering constantly.

I guess the sequel will be about killing US marines? Boooo!

Make it realistic: The gamer plays a vietcong and dies every second - with instant respawn as another vietnamese! How about that?

Consoles? I owned two: a Pong clone and an Atari 2600. And that's it.
