If patches are making the game worse for some folks... maybe it's some garbage software that the person has loaded on their machine, that is running in the background. Maybe it's a driver issue. Maybe it IS the settings they chose. Maybe it's the mods they have loaded, if any. Or maybe, just maybe... it's the patch? I mean, we're talking about millions of gamers with wildly varying systems. It's possible that a patch can improve things for the majority of systems and yet break the game for others. The things you list could certainly be the problem but Occam's razor would suggest the patch is the most likely issue.
Anyway, I find the performance to be decidedly lacking. I notice no improvement whatsoever from the drivers that add Crossfire support, which should add 50-80%. I have a 4.6GHz Core i7 and an SSD, so it can't be a CPU or I/O issue; I have 12GB of RAM and the game is only 32bit, so that's not it. I'm still leaning towards graphics driver issues but it's interesting to see that other people are also noticing weird performance quirks.
And it still annoys me that almost every games seems to fuck about with mouse movement in menus. Is it really THAT hard to have exactly the same sensitivity and responsiveness in-game as on the Windows desktop? It's a complete clusterfuck at the moment, as I never know how fast or jerkily my cursor is going to move.
PS - It pisses me off that according to Steam 26% of gamers have 5GB of RAM or more and yet virtually no games include 64bit executables and even those that do don't make use of the extra RAM. Skyrim is 32bit and yet only uses 1GB of RAM, no doubt because it's multiplatform. I know there are still GPU VRAM limitations but it's taking the piss to basically ignore all that free RAM. |
